Treasure case 2016 T1057; disclaimed returned to finder. Description: A composite silver openwork dress fitting. The body of the object is flat and broadly oval in plan, although it is missing the tip on one side of the oval (c. 5% of the total object). The openwork design is symmetrical along both axes, with an openwork quatrefoil at the centre, with a central lozenge shaped void. The side arms of the quatrefoil are pointed oval and connect directly to the outer frame, the vertical arms are squatter and circular, leading first into a further open work annulet and then connecting …

The disc is flat with a front decorated with a branch coming in from the base to the centre, possibly laurel, with two side leaves or branches, and a multi leaved terminal. The branch is surrounded by incised areas so it appears raised and details of the leaves are again picked out by incisions. The fragment consists of 6 lobes, domes or pearls of a lobed finger ring with breaks at each end. The upper and lower edges of the ring are shaped to the lobes. The division between each lobe is an irregular relatively shallow V shaped channel. The inner surface of the hoop is plain and flat. The top is decorated with two recessed rings encircling an unrecessed crown enclosed by a recessed outer border with raised foliate decoration. The sides have a plain band top and bottom. The central part is decorated with regular rows of indented squares with a raised grid between them creating a 'waffle' pattern. All are official issues of monarchs of England, Scotland and Ireland dating from 1575 to 1643. Six are English issues, two Scotland and one Irish Discovery: The coins were found while metal detecting on cultivated ground as part of an organised group event.
