Post Medieval silver sixpence of William III (1694-1702), dated 1697 on coin, minted at London. Opposing sides of the coin have been bent to give it an S shape in profile, coins modified in this way, especially those worn smooth are thought to be love tokens. The bends have been straightened but it is not clear if this was contemporary or more recent.

The coin appears pitted and in places the silver surface seems to have almost peeled away leaving a blacker, base silver centre exposed. This may be the effect of corrosion on a coin naturally surface enriched through striking or may indicate it is a contemporary copy which has been delibreately plated or surface enriched.
