Thumb piece or handle from an unidentifed cast silver item of probably 18th century date. The thumb piece is complete with a oval panel connected to a curved rectangular sectioned arm which is in turn connected to a broken hollow attachment which would have linked it to the rest of the item. The oval panel has a moulded, raised bust on each side, it is helmeted and draped, possibly Minerva. The bust is within a line border with stippling in the field between the line and bust. From the base of the oval section projects a small oval shaped flat knop moulded into a face on both sides, o…

Post medieval silver sixpence of Elizabeth I (1558-1603), initial mark hand, dated 1591 on coin, North 2015. The coin appears pitted and in places the silver surface seems to have almost peeled away leaving a blacker, base silver centre exposed. This may be the effect of corrosion on a coin naturally surface enriched through striking or may indicate it is a contemporary copy which has been delibreately plated or surface enriched. The design is, in some places, a bit crude but as these coins were produced in large numbers that is also not uncommon on genuine coins particular as dies …

One end of a silver sheet tubular item, possibly a needle case or similar. The piece was originally tubular or oval in section formed of a rectangular piece of sheet rolled edge to edge and meeting in a seam down one side. The slightly convex faces suggest it was originally oval in section although it is now squashed flat. One end is incomplete with an irregular break. The other appears complete and has a slightly thinner, plain tubular piece of silver sheet fitted inside the first creating a step in thickness and width where they join. The seam has opened down the side of both tubes …

Treasure case 2012 T211: Disclaimed, returned to finder Description: Post Medieval hollow terminal from an unidentified object. The terminal has been squashed flat but appears to have originally had a flat back and convex front. It has a trilobed end with the large vertical lobes divided by lines of raised pellets. These lobes appear to have ended with an abruptly stepped in base below which was a recessed and narrowed but still convex section. This section is divided in two by a horizontal indented line with a row of raised pellets along its centre. Above the line is a pair of op…
