Post Medieval penny of Charles I (1625-1649), Group D or E, initial mark unclear, minted at the Tower of London, c.AD 1634-1640, North (1991:163) no. 2270 or 2272. The coin is pierced with a square (nail) hole near the edge at 10 o'clock on the obverse and 8 o'clock on the reverse. It was pierced from the obverse. It is also bent and may have been bent in the s-shape (one edge bent forward and the opposite edge bent back). This S-shaped bend is common on coins of this period and often interpreted as making the coin a 'love token'.
