A cast iron ball, probably round shot, that is a cannon ball, dating from the Post Medieval period, about AD1500-1900. The object, which is pitted and corroded, has a diameter of c.100mm and a weight of 3919g, c. 4kg. In recording a similar piece Kinnear states: This corresponds closely with the dimensions and weight of four inch, 'nine-pounder' (weighing 9lbs) ordnance. Shot of this size were used in the 16th and 17th centuries in a gun known as the Demi Culverin. However, the shot could also date from the later period. Medieval or Post medieval copper-alloy sheet scabbard chape dating from AD 1300-1800. It is trapezoid in plan and oval in cross section with flattened front and back. The sheet has been rolled into a tube with a single overlapping seam down the back. base is broken but it appears to be tapering to a rounded point. A fragment of a Post Medieval clay pipe. Most of the bowl and the heel survive, but damaged and the stem is missing. The bowl is set at about 60 degrees to the stem and is swollen with convex sides becoming straight only at the top. The rim of the bowl is plain. The heel projects with a large flat, circular base. There is no makers mark visible on the heel but one side is missing to a break as is the stem, both locations used for marks. The bowl measures 25.9mm in length and 20.1mm in maximum diameter. A small fragment of a post medieval clay tobacco pipe, probably dating to the period c. AD 1680 to 1730. Only the heel and a very small part of the bowl survives. The heel is flat and oval shaped, and it is still possible to identify that the heel projects very slightly from the base of the bowl. The base of the heel is stamped with the inscription [C]HAR / WEBB / IN / CHARD. One side of the projecting heel also has a raised letter C. Part of the bowl of a post-medieval clay tobacco pipe with one profile, the heel and a very short section of the stem remaining. About 50% of the bowl has been lost to a ragged old break. There is a line of rouletting (small rectangles) just below the mouth of the bowl. The bowl is angled at about 45 degrees to the stem and swollen sided, although the complete form is unclear. A copper-alloy, post-medieval, quartefoil mount with two integral rivet spikes on the back. The mount is an openwork cross fleuretty in shape with a centeral lozenge. The cross arms are linked at the centre by a lozenge and the outer petals of the fleurs at each cross end also join, leaving oval openwork between, one mis-cast. A cast copper-alloy handle lug probably from a chafing dish handle of Late Medieval or Post-Medieval date (AD 1400 - AD 1650). The lug is irregular in outline and rectangular in cross section with rounded corners. It has is widened slightly at one end beyond which is the stub of a circular rivet which would have attached to the vessel wall. The centre is widened into an oval with a circular hole through it to hold the handle. A cast lead-alloy cap from a post-medieval powder measure dating to the 17th or 18th century. It has straight sides that widen slightly towards the open base where there is a raised mouth moulding. The slightly oval top has a central raised pellet with surrounded by a slightly recessed circle. Where the sides meet the top there are two integral attachment loops, one on each side, bent down slightly to meet the sides. There is a hole at the side where the other attachment loop is missing. Post Medieval lead cloth searchers seal formed of a rectangular strip of lead folded in half. The ends of the strip are secured by an integral rivet on one going through a hole in the other and being stamped flat with a crown stamp. Stamped on the strip (prior to bending) is: G' . FRANKS, mainly on one face. On the other face, the other way up, is 17- 60 with the 17 and 60 divided by three deeply stamped parallel lines. The seal is 42.0mm long 14.3mm wide, at the flattened end, 10.6mm wide at the fold and 4.0mm thick. It weighs 9.55g. The strip was 1.3mm thick. Searchers were of…
