A fragment of a Post-medieval silver dress pin of the bodkin type (AD 1600-1700). The object is rectangular-sectioned with slightly convex sides, tapering gradually from the pointed upper end to the blunt lower end. The upper and lower ends are missing due to an old break, only the rectangular slot and a small section of the lower portion of the shaft are retained. The lower end of the object tapers inwards. The object retains no indication of decoration. Similar examples can be seen on the Portable Antiquities Database: 2010 T754 (LIN-A59A56) and 2009 T304 (SF-7B0BA7) and 2016 T492 …

A complete copper alloy dress fastener with blue and black enamel. There are 4 attachment loops, one of which is very worn and the edge is broken. The rectangular loop shows signs of wear. There is a simple, blunt ornamental knop. The reverse is pitted and slightly concave. The decoration is a central male bust, facing left, surrounded by foliate lines and swirls following the oval shape of the object. A complete copper alloy harness or furniture fitting. The mian disc is 50mm in diameter with a sunken cell around a central boss. The boss has a knop woth central recessed cell at its centre. Two attachment loops each 10mm in diameter make the whole object 68mm long. Its height is 15mm. The reverse is recessed behind the boss. The boss is stamped with several annulets and incomplete annulets to create a crude floral pattern. A complete silver vervel, or hawking ring. 3.5mm wide, 1.5mm thick and an external diameter of 10mm. It weighs 0.6g. The frame appears D-shaped in cross section giving an internal diameter of 6mm. The words 'Roulston in leicestershire' have ben engraved around the outer surface. The soldered seam can be faintly seen between the words 'Roulston' and 'in'.

There is a small knop at the 12, 3 and 9 oclock positions around the edge of the oval panel.
