A lead-alloy disc possibly from a post-Medieval cloth seal. The subcircular disc is decorated with a relief-stamped, crowned thistle design, with a pellet border around the circumference and the numeral '3' in the top right field. This is possibly part of an alnage seal, the '3' indicating the payable duty, in pence. A parallel was discovered in London (Egan 1995: 73/fig. 28, no. 191) and could not be dated; however, similar seals were found which bore the busts of 18th century mondarchs. Dimensions: diameter: 17.80mm; thickness: 1.65mm. Weight: 1.95g.
