An incomplete cast copper-alloy dress fastener of post-medieval date (c. 17th century). It has broken at the attachment end such that it cannot be established whether this is a loop or hook part of the two-part fastener. The object is flat and largely sub-oval, with three integral knops; one at the centre of each side, and one at the centre of the narrower end of the plate. A fragment from a post-medieval copper-alloy and iron precision instrument - pair of dividers dating to the 16th-17th century. Such dividers comprised two hinged arms; the upper section is copper alloy while the lower arms are iron; here only one upper section survives, broken at both ends. At one angled end of the fragment was where the piece hinged with the other upper section. The arms are decoratively cast so that they have a varied, faceted appearance. On the middle section of the arms this faceting has created an oval depression on the internal surface. Externally the equivalent…

A copper-alloy post-medieval double-looped buckle frame of asymmetrical form. One loop is trapezoidal while the other is D-shaped. The former has a central pin rest and rebated outer edge. The D-shaped loop is similarly rebated on its outer edge and features a central rounded protrusion internally. Overall the front of the frame is bevelled shallowly from the internal edge to the external. The pin is missing; traces of ferrous corrosion product towards the centre of the pin bar suggest that it would have been made of iron. The buckle is angled in profile, probably from use rather than…

An incomplete post-medieval unusual dress hook of composite construction (c. 16th century). The front plate would have comprised three hollow-domed bosses, only two of which survive following old breaks. The bosses are apparently undecorated; both are becoming detached from the plate at places. That set uppermost is missing its counterpart. When complete, these upper bosses would have had a central perforation. In the perforation of the extant boss is located one end of a separate copper-alloy angular wire loop, retained in place by a lead fill in the hollow reverse. The lower boss, s…

A post-medieval copper-alloy shoe or knee buckle with separate pin and stud chape, the latter broken through its loop. The frame of the buckle is symmetrical, comprising two D-shaped loops that form a continuous oval frame. These have shallow curved internal expansions along each short edge. At the centre of each of long side the frame is thickened, visible on the reverse as a discrete area, and drilled for a separate iron spindle/axis; traces of corrosion product are visible.
