An incomplete silver mount of post-medieval date (c. 18th century). As well as having received numerous circumferential losses the edge has also been bent at one point. It was originally stud like, consisting of a broadly circular, flat head attached to a separate stem for attachment, the latter possibly of base metal. A rectangular scar from the stem is visible at the centre of the reverse. On similar mounts the circumference is clearly scalloped; this disc is either rather worn or was originally smooth. A complete post-medieval silver hawking vervel of Lewis and Richardson Type B (2019: p46-55). The vervel is annular, and D-shaped in cross-section with a flat exterior and shallowly convex inner surface. The exterior is engraved with 'At millbuirie in Dorset' in italic script with a long letter S. The inscription fills around 80% of the space available. Description: An incomplete thimble, originally of two-piece composite construction, formed of a main piece of silver sheet curved to create a flared cylinder, and a now missing shallowly convex dome (crown), and slightly squashed.
