Object type: STRAP FITTING
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Gloucestershire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
An incomplete Post-Medieval copper-alloy strap mount with suspension loop and separate pendent hooked fitting. The strap fitting is probably from a sword belt and dates to the 16th century.
The strap mount is a flat piece of copper alloy that is broadly rectangular in plan with curved upper and lower edges. The outer edge of the mount is double cusped, the plate is then waisted after which it broadens and then tapers again to a broken edge. Other examples illustrate this is the point that the fitting may have then extended to comprise of further suspension loops. Possibly two furth…

Object type: JETTON
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Gloucestershire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A Post Medieval copper alloy French jetton dating to (AD 1497-1521). Probable Shield of France modern bearing three lis. Reverse type: simple cross patty with 'V' in each angle. Obverse and reverse with fictitious legend. Due to corrosion on the jetton this identification is believed to be most fitting. These jettons were struck under the period of Louis XII (AD 1497 - 1515) and the early years of Francis (AD 1515-1547).

A Post Medieval silver threepence of Charles II (AD1660-1685) dated AD 1679. Obverse: Laureate bust facing right, draped. The coin has been punched from the reverse to the obverse. The pierced hole is at 4 o'clock on the obverse, adjacent to the chin and on the obverse appears at 2 o'clock (to the lower right of the crown). This suggests that the coin was possibly worn as jewellery. Die axis 6. Spink (2002:p.314) no:3386.

An incomplete cast copper alloy double looped sub-oval buckle of probable Post-Medieval date circa AD1550-1650. The buckle is incomplete due to a missing pin. The frame has rounded knops on the outer edge of each loop. Each loop is similar in size and shape. The narrowed bar has a small knop at each end. Both faces are undecorated. Object type: THIMBLE
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Gloucestershire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Cast copper alloy (possibly brass) "bee-hive" or "heavy duty" thimble of later medieval date (1400-1550). The thimble is complete. The thimble is broadly D shaped in plan with a domed top. The base of the rim has a band around the circumference approximately 4 mm thick with a visible seam. The thimble has been bent and distorted most probably in the plough soil, however it is likely that the sides originally tapered to the domed top. The sides have a series of indentations around them that are broadly sub-circular in shape and are uniform in size. These are arranged in horizontal circ…
