The front exhibits three letters in a gothic style script: IHS. Traces of enamelling are present in the letters H & S (red in the H & white in S). The abbreviation IHS normally stands for Jesus and is commonly used as part of the symbol for the Society of Jesus. This mount is probably 18th to 19th Century in dating.
