A complete thin circular sectioned gold wire ring, possibly a finger ring, probably of Modern dating (AD 1800 to AD 2000). The gold wire has a diameter of 1.4 mm. No stamps or marks are present on the wire. The ends have been cut. It has been formed into a circular shape with the ends of the wire overlapping by 3.4 mm. It weighs 1.0 g. The circular section of the wire is suggestive of a modern date, and therefore as it is probably less than 300 years old, it falls outside of the remits of the Treasure Act 1996 and should not be considered to be potential Treasure.

Due to the interlocking nature, it is hard to determine if there is an inscription or any maker's marks on the interior of the hoop. The exterior consists of a twisted wire border both top and bottom, with a recess on the internal edge. Between the two borders is …

This gold ring is formed of three interlinking hoops, the centre one flat on both sides, the two outer hoops flat on one side only; the hoops interlink at the front forming a decorative bezel. Although examples are known, puzzle rings are not common before 1700; in this case, there is no evidence to date this ring pre 1705. J Rudoe British Museum 26/01/2006
