Copper alloy and lead button. Cast uniform button front with its hollow back filled with lead, and with two disturbed areas in that filling which may mark the loss of either a loop or other provision for its attachment, whether as button or badge is uncertain. The front has an applied plaque bearing a military badge comprising a Garter with a Latin motto: DESDIC[---]PERO, enclosing a seated lion left beneath a crown with five upright jewels - i.e. not the Crown Imperial commonly seen on more recent militaria. White metal plating appears to have covered both the button front and the ap…

Copper alloy and iron wheel, Cast wheel with four equidistantly spaced spokes with slightly concave sides, and with the stub of an iron axle remaining at its centre. Traces of untrimmed casting flash remain between the inside of the rim and the sides of the spokes. The finder originally considered this to be part of a toy vehicle of recent date. A suggestion of an identification as a votive object was then canvassed by this reporter. Craig Cook corrects this, with reference to the advice of Ben Paites, FLO for Essex. Ben kindly suggests that the provision of an axle distinguishes this…

Lead cloth seal. A pair of cast discs joined by sprue which have been clenched together. The larger disc bears the Roman numeral XII.
