A Lower Palaeolithic 500,000 to 400,000 BC Acheulian hand axe possibly sub-cordate, knapped from dark grey flint. Flakes have been removed from both surfaces to shape the axe creating numerous scars and there is some damage possibly from glacial activity or plough. It is an elongated oval in plan, tapering toward a pointed cutting end. It has an elongated lenticular cross section with pointed edges. The edges of the axe are damaged and worn. The surfaces of the axe are a dark grey. The axe is 54mm long and the width is 30mm. The axe shares similarities with KENT-4B61A0 and ESS-144FE8.…
