A complete but highly weathered flint handaxe dating to the Lower Palaeolithic, c. 500,000-250,000 BC. It is broadly ovate in plan and sub-lenticular in section, demonstrating a reasonable degree of bi-lateral symmetry. Manufactured on a piece of flint which has now patinated a deep orangey tan colour, the butt-end of the handaxe demonstrates heavily abraded cortex, an additional small patch of which is present on one edge of the object.
