Object type: HANDAXE
Broad period: PALAEOLITHIC
County: Hampshire
Workflow stage: Published
A flint handaxe of the Lower Palaeolithic (500,000-180,000 BC). The implement is ovate in shape and bi-facially worked being roughly symmetrical, with one side more convex than the other (which is rather flatter). The colour of the flint on both faces varies, from dark to light orange, or 'toffee' coloured.
Measures 122.46x79.96x32.86mm and weighs 288g (to the nearest whole gram).
