A complete knapped lithic implement of probable Palaeolithic date. The axehead is sub-triangular in plan and pointed ovate in section. The implement has been bifacially worked with crude flaking over all surfaces. The cutting edge has been more extensively worked with finer flaking.
The flint is a light grey mottled colour with some small patches of iron staining. The fragment is 69.6mm long, 44.3mm wide, 20.6mm thick and weighs 59g.
A similar though more complete axehead has been recorded on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database as SUR-6549F5.

The flint is a light grey mottled colour with patches of iron staining. The fragment is 70.1mm long, 62.2mm wide, 30.6mm thick and weighs 115g.
A similar though more complete axehead has been recorded on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database as SUR-6F1AE5.
