A flaked handaxe. A bout coupé handaxe. The flint is dark brown and patinated to a glossy light orange-brown and cream. The flint is highly siliceous. There is an area of abraded thick nodule cortex on one side of the butt. The axe is sub-triangular or cordiform in plan, with a plano-convex cross section and a straight profile. One face has a large post-depositional thermal fracture scar (a "pot-lid" removal) which is patinated to a paler, more matt, off-white. A crude, unifacially worked probable handaxe. Made on a large, natural flint flake. One face retains the naturally broken surface. There is a natural perpendicular break at one end, used to form the butt of the implement. The other face has crude covering flaking worked from the margins to form the sub-triangular shape. The surfaces are all heavily abraded with significant rolling abrasion to the flake scar ridges. It is heavily stained and repatinated to a dark orange brown. There is some post-depositional edge damage. Date: Lower to Middle Palaeolithic - c. 500000 to 40000 BC

A large chert handaxe. An elongate cordate handaxe in toffee-coloured Greensand chert. It is bifacially worked all over with shallow, sometimes large invasive flaking and smaller edge-dressing. A complete, small, bifacially worked, flint handaxe of cordate type. The handaxe was found on a beach and consequently is rolled and abraded with a small amount of edge damage. There is invasive soft hammer flaking covering both faces. The butt and mid portion of the axe is thick and it then tapers to a rounded point. The cross section is lentoid. A probable handaxe. A pointed plano convex handaxe made on a large flake of orange-brown Greensand chert. A relatively small striking platform at the proximal end and a large diffuse bulb of percussion. The dorsal face has several flake removals along the edges,shaping it to a blunted point at the distal end and giving it a central longitudinal ridge producing a sub-triangular cross section. Large Achuleian handaxe. It is a heavy butted, sub-cordate shape with a slight reversed S twist in profile. It is made from greensand chert. It has a heavy, creamy patina and some slight iron staining. There is no cortex visible. It is a well formed piece with shallow, invasive scars on both faces and a finely worked tip. There is (ancient) heavy wear on both faces and the flake ridges have been abraded to 1-2mm in width. The edges have been crushed in antiquity. There is no modern damage.

A flint handaxe of probable Lower Palaeolithic date. The handaxe is a crude and unifacially worked implement made from light grey and orange-brown flint with brown banding. It has a matte patina. One face has several clear flaking scars and a large area of nodule cortex. The other side is largely unworked, with several natural fractures. However, there are some flaking scars around the edges of this side which are more likely to be derived from human action. Identified by Chris Norman as Wymer (1968) type E.
