Flint scraper on a tertiary flake of probable Neolithic to early Bronze Age date. The object is long and thin in shape and sub-triangular in cross-section. It has a slightly curved central ridge on the dorsal face. Along the left side of the dorsal face is semi-abrupt, long, subparallel retouch, becoming finer and shorter at the very edge. The distal end curves inwards slightly and a small amount of semi-abrupt, short, scaled retouch can be seen along the edge of the dorsal face here too. The butt is small and has been deliberately rounded and the bulb is fairly diffuse. There are seve…

Flint awl and/or scraper, probably of Neolithic to early Bronze Age date. Secondary flake, with cortex remaining along the left edge of the dorsal face. The object tapers to a point at the distal end, but the very tip is now missing. Both sides taper inwards very slightly at the proximal end. There are several long, thin removals on the dorsal face. There is very fine low-angle, short, parallel retouch along the left edge of the dorsal face. The flint is mid to light grey in colour with a speckled, milky, matt patina. It has a very small butt and prominent bulb and ripple lines on the …

Flint borer, probably of Neolithic to early Bronze Age date. Secondary flake. There are a few large removals on the dorsal face. Long, stepped, semi-abrupt to abrupt retouch along the left edge of the dorsal face has caused this edge to curve inwards. Further stepped, abrupt retouch towards the distal end, also curving inwards, has created a protruding borer between these two sections. There is further very fine, short, low angle, parallel retouch along the right edge of the doral face, becoming much longer and more uneven towards the proximal end. The butt is wide and there is no visi…

Flint borer, probably of Neolithic to early Bronze Age date. Secondary flake. The object is sub-triangular in shape, tapering to a rounded point at the distal end. Most edges of the object show scaled, abrupt to semi-abrupt, short retouch and the bulb has been completely removed. The left edge, when viewed from the ventral face has larger removals, with a single removal at the distal end creating a sharp edge to the pointed section. The flint is light grey in colour with lighter patches in places and a matt patina. Length: 43.09mm, Width: 21.16mm, Thickness: 3.96mm, Weight: 3.2g

Two small retouched flint flakes/scrapers. Probably of Neolithic to early Bronze Age date. 1. Length: 28.45mm, Width: 20.80mm, Thickness: 5.4mm, Weight: 3.1g Secondary flake. Cortex remains on the dorsal face. A few long, thin flaking scars on the dorsal face. A very small amount of retouch to the distal end of the dorsal face. 2. Length: 21.61mm, Width: 20.28mm, Thickness: 4.71mm, Weight: 1.8g A small sub-triangular flake with very fine, subparallel low-angle to semi-abrupt retouch around most edges.

Object type: END SCRAPER
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Somerset
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Flint end scraper. Tertiary flake. The dorsal face is convex, with parallel, thin flaking scars suggesting that it has been removed from a blade core. The butt is quite small, with a fairly prominent bulb on the ventral face. To the distal end of the dorsal face short, abrupt, very irregular retouch can be seen. The object is very heavily patinated. However, a few of these removals have exposed the brown-grey flint below. These are unfortunately too limited to suggest whether this is evidence of reuse or simply later damage during deposition. The object is likely to date to the Neolith…

Flint scraper, probably of Neolithic date. Tertiary flake. The object is trapezoidal in shape and fairly angular. There is one large flaking scar in the centre of the dorsal face, with a few smaller stepped removals to the proximal end. Along the left side of the dorsal face is very regular, short, semi-abrupt to abrupt, parallel retouch. This continues for short distance along the right edge, to the other side of the pointed distal end. There is a futher small amount of retouch in the centre of the left edge of the ventral face. The flint is mid grey-brown in colour, with lighter patc…

Flint scraper, probably of Neolithic to early Bronze Age date. Tertiary flake. The object is sub-oval in shape. Both the proximal and distal ends are long and curve out slightly, joining together to form a slight, rounded point in the centre of each side. At the proximal end of the dorsal face are several small, stepped removals, becoming larger towards the centre and largely removing the butt. There are a few long, abrupt, parallel removals to the right of the proximal end. Along the left edge of the distal end is short, scaled, semi-abrupt retouch. There is a hinged fracture line on …
