Object type: LITHIC IMPLEMENT
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete flint implement, probably a scraper, of probable Neolithic to early Bronze Age date. It is roughly triangular in shape with a rounded point at the distal end and is formed on a secondary flake with cortex still covering the right side of the dorsal face. There are long, narrow flaking scars on the dorsal face and very fine, short, low angle, parallel retouch along the left side of the dorsal face. There is an abrupt break across the proximal end and the fragment was probably part of a larger implement originally. The flint is grey-brown in colour. Length: 35.08mm, wid…

A complete flint flake with later reworking of probably Neolithic to early Bronze Age date. It is roughly oval in shape and triangular in cross-section. There are a series of small flaking scars on both faces, which are covered with thick white patination. This patination has been removed in a few places around the edges, particularly around the distal end of the dorsal face where there is a small patch of abrupt, sub-parallel, long retouch to the right side. The butt is narrow and the bulb of percussion has been removed. The flint beneath the patination is light grey in colour. Le…

An incomplete fragment of flintworking debris of Mesolithic to early Bronze Age date. It is large and broad with a rounded distal end. There are narrow flaking scars on both faces covered in a heavy patination. There is an abrupt break across the proximal end removing the butt and a few smaller scars revealling the light brown-grey flint beneath, but these are probably plough damage rather than deliberate later working. An incomplete Neolithic polished flint handaxe. It is long and roughly oval in shape, but expanding slightly towards the blade end, and plano-convex in cross section with a slightly higher central ridge on one face. There is a small amount of invasive, scaled, low angle retouch along the sides and a chunk is missing from one side of the blade end. This break is heavily patinated suggesting that it occurred prior to deposition and possibly as a result of use. The flint, where it is exposed at the butt end, is light grey in colour, but the rest of the surface is very heavily patinated a…
