Record ID: SF-BD71F1
Object type: AXEHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Essex
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
A fragment of a Neolithic flaked and polished axe. It is sub-triangular in shape and oval in cross-section with an abrupt break across the wider end. Both faces are covered with invasive, scaled retouch and a small amount of polishing is visible on one face between the scars. There are small patches of irregular retouch around the break on both faces, suggesting that the object may have been reworked for reuse following damage. The flint is a reddish-brown colour with little patination.

An incomplete flint scraper of probable Neolithic to early Bronze Age date. A long, narrow tertiary flake with an abrupt transverse break across the centre as a result of which the proximal end is now missing. The flint is a light brown colour with heavy orange staining on both faces. There is long, semi-abrupt, scaled retouch across the left edge of the distal end of the dorsal face. This retouch is slightly less stained suggesting it may be a later addition to an older flake. There is no staining within the central break suggesting it is a recent occurrence.
