Record ID: SF-145F64
Object type: AXE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete Neolithic flaked an polished flint axe. It is roughly triangular in shape, with largely straight sides and a slightly outwards curving blade end. Both faces are covered with scaled, covering retouch and have been partially polished on the ridges between the flaking scars. The blade end has also been polished to create a sharp cutting edge. There is an abrupt break across the butt end and its tip is missing. The flint is an opaque light grey in colour with some surface patination. Length: 94.87mm, width: 48.86mm, thickness: 11.93mm, weight: 16.37g

Object type: ADZE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete flint late Mesolithic to early Neolithic probable adze. It is largely straight-sided (although both sides curved outwards very slightly), tapering slightly towards one end, with rounded ends and an irregular flattened lozenge-shaped cross-section. There is invasive, scaled flaking on both faces and a possible attempt at a tranchet flake removal from one face of the cutting edge. There is some damage around the butt end and a small section missing here. There is also a notch caused by damage to the blade ned. The flint is a mid-grey in colour with slight patination on one…

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete flint late Mesolithic to early Neolithic probable adze. It is straight-sided, tapering slightly towards one end, with rounded ends and an irregular plano-convex cross-section. There is invasive, scaled flaking on both faces and a possible attempt at a tranchet flake removal from one face of the cutting edge. There is some damage around the butt end and possibly a small section missing here. The flint is a mid-grey in colour with slight patination and some orange staining in places. The presence of a potential tranchet flake suggests that this example may be of late Me…

Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A flint awl or borer of probable Neolithic to early Bronze Age date. A triangular secondary flake with thick orange cortex covering the proximal end. Both faces are covered with a milky patina, which has been deliberately removed in a few places on the dorsal face suggesting that an older object was reused at a later date. There is long, scaled, low angle retouch along the right side of the ventral face and short, abrupt, irregular retouch around the distal end of the dorsal face, which together create a rounded point at the distal end. The bulb has been removed. The flint is mid grey…

Object type: DEBITAGE
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A large fragment of flintworking debitage of probable Neolithic to early Bronze Age date. A pointed-oval tertiary flake. There is a small amount of irregular, short, semi-abrupt retouch along the curved left edge of the dorsal face. The bulb is prominant and the butt narrow. The ridges of the dorsal face have been worn smooth, probably a result of natural corrosion. The flint is a mottled opaque buff-grey colour. Length: 64.77mm, width: 37.19mm, thickness: 8.03mm, weight: 18.11g

Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A complete flint late Neolithic to early Bronze Age flint implement, possibly a knife. It is roughly triangular in shape with a shorter straight side and two outwards curving longer sides. It is oval in cross-section and bifacially worked. There is low angle, scaled retouch covering both faces with a small amount of cortex remaining in places on both. There is an unworked section on one face behind the straight side, which is still covered with a thick whitish patina. The two longer sides coverge to produce a rounded point with some damage around it. The flint is a mottled dark grey c…
