Object type: SCRAPER (TOOL)
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Norfolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A complete Neolithic to early Bronze Age flint scraper. It has been formed on a naturally occuring roughly circular 'pot lid' flake formed as a result of frost damage with a bulb in the very centre of its ventral face. Dark pebble cortex still covers the dorsal face. There is scaled and sub-parallel, semi-invasive, low-angle retouch around c.45% of the edge of the dorsal face and perhaps a small amount of further retouch in places around the remainder. The flint is dark gray in colour with lighter patched and a slight patina. Length: 35.11mm, width: 33.64mm, thickness: 9.77mm, weig…

A complete Neolithic to early Bronze Age fragment of flintworking debitage. It is a tertiary flake with several small flaking scars on the dorsal face. There is perhaps a small amount of short, abrupt, sub-parallel retouch along the distal end, but this is very limited in extent. The butt is broad with a prominant bulb of percussion. Length: 25.11mm, width: 21.79mm, thickness: 6.94mm, weight: 3.23g

A complete flint retouched flake probably of Neolithic to early Bronze Age date. It is formed from a tertiary flake. There are a few long, narrow flaking scars across the dorsal face and intermittent short, parallel, abrupt retouch along both sides. There is a small notch to the left of the distal end, which appears to be deliberate. The butt is narrow and the bulb of percussion prominant. The flint is light-grey in colour with a milky patina. A complete flint Neolithic to early Bronze Age scraper. It is formed on a tertiary flake. There are several large flaking scars on the dorsal face and the bulb of percussion has been removed on the ventral face. There is abrupt to semi-abrupt, short, sub-parallel retouch along the curved distal end of the dorsal face. There is a large notch to the right side of the proximal end, which appears to have been created deliberately. The flint is mid-grey in colour with a milky, shiny patina. Two fragments of flintworking debitage of probable Neolithic to early Bronze Age date. Both are secondary flakes. One has invasive scaled retouch in places on both faces and several abrupt breaks at the proximal end, suggesting that it may have splinted off a larger worked object. There is potentially a small amount of informal retouch along the right side of the dorsal face, but this is more likely to be rolling from plough soil. This fragment has a shiny patina whereas the other is more matt. Combined weight: 40.42g

Two fragments of probable Neolithic to early Bronze Age debitage. One is a long, pointed, secondary flake with cortex still covering the left side of the dorsal face. The other is a small, semi-circular, secondary flake with some cortex on the dorsal face. Neither shows any clear evidence of retouch, but both have significantly rolled edges, scratched surfaces and crazing in places from being in plough soil. Both are grey-brown in colour with some milky patination (heavier on the smaller). Combined weight: 27.86g

A fragment of Neolithic to early Bronze Age flintworking debris. It is a secondary flake with some cortex still remaining on the dorsal face. An incomplete flint implement, probably a scraper, of probable Neolithic to early Bronze Age date.
