A group of three struck flint flakes of later Prehistoric date. They have a combined total weight of 14.89g and are of probable Neolithic to Bronze Age date, c.4000-800 BC. 1) An unpatinated long flake or blade, struck from a pale brown/grey flint, and snapped at the distal end. It has a small striking platform and prominent bulb of percussion, with parallel flake scars on the dorsal face. Both edges have notches with short, scaled, and semi-abrupt retouch. This flake measures 38.54mm in length, 20.21mm in width, 6.86mm in thickness, and 6.22g in weight. 2) An unpatinated long f…

A complete flint polished axehead of Neolithic date. It is struck from a mottled pale grey to white flint, is roughly triangular in form and pointed oval in section with flattened/faceted edges. The rounded butt end is complete and has limited short, long angled and scaled retouch on both faces. Both sides of the axe have flattened, rectangular faces that are smoothly polished and narrow towards each end of the axe. Each of the faces are smoothly polished with few flake scars visible, although with some orange/brown staining probably resultant from plough damage. At the blade end the …

An unpatinated struck flint object of probable Neolithic to Bronze Age date. It is struck from a dark grey/brown flint and is roughly oval in form and pointed-oval in cross section. At one end (proximal end?) one edge has been retouched to produce a more triangular terminal that is in some respects similar to oblique arrowheads and similar points or projectiles. The dorsal face has invasive, scaled and low angled retouch coverin all edges and all of the proximal(?) end, although an area at the centre of the face remains untouched. The ventral face has similar retouch but limited to th…

County: Cambridgeshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A heavily patinated flint scraper of probable Neolithic or later date. It is struck from a dark grey flint that has a heavy white patination or staining. The scraper is circular in form with high, conical back. On the dorsal face there is extensive semi-abrupt and scaled retouch, with possible flake removal on the ventral face. This scraper measures 42.12mm in length, 39.52mm in width, 14.49mm in thickness, and 22.63g in weight. It is of probable Neolithic date, although a slightly earlier or later date range cannot be ruled out entirely.

A partially patinated struck flint knife of probable Neolithic or earlier date. It is oval in form, struck from a pale grey flint that is stained pale blue/grey, and has a flat striking platform and low bulb of percussion. One edge has low angled, invasive and scaled retouch, the other with steep, abrupt retouch. The entire object measures 46.19m in length, 38.71mm in width, 12.51mm in thickness, and 21.28g in weight. This is probably a flint knife rather than a scraper due to the low angled edge retouch. It is likely to be of Neolithic date (c.4000-2550 BC), although given the staini…

An incomplete and re-worked polished Neolithic axehead. It is roughly oval in form and pointed-oval in cross section, and struck from a mottled pale grey flint. One edge and part of one face have the remains of extensive polishing, however the surrounding areas of both faces have extensive flake removal. The axe is very sort and both ends of the object have short, semi-abrupt and scaled retouch. Thissuggeststhat it may have been damaged or broken in antiquity and then subsequently re-worked for different usage, the original polished axe being much larger. It measures 73.29mm in length…

A very small polished flint axehead of Neolithic date. It is sub-oval in form, pointed oval in cross section, and struck from a flint that ranges from pale grey/white at the butt end to darker grey at the blade end. The butt end is slightly flattened and has crude flake scars that may be deliberate or perhaps the result of damage. In contrast, the crescentic cutting edge is polished but has several small flake scars probably resultant from either usage or post-depositional damage. The dorsal face has a prominent central ridge that gives the butt end of the axe an almost triangular cro…
