Late Neolithic polished stone axe, 99mm long, 64mm wide and 26mm thick with a weight of 202g. The axe is mostly complete, missing its hafted end, but has also sustained a lot of damage aroud its edges. It is sub rectangular in form and eliptical in cross section. It has a pronounced rounded step just before it drops down to form a blade on one face. It has no obvious facets and is a dark grey/brown, suggesting Charnwood slate.

Neolithic stone axe, 59mm long, 44mm at its widest point and 17mm thick with a weight of 102grams. The axe is incomplete and is made from Jadeitite. In plan one side is slightly convex while the other side is fairly straight, with slight facets. The blade is fairly straight and symmetrical and the body has traces fo polishing on each face. Following spectroradiometry by members of the project JADE team in France it was concluded that the axe belongged to the Chelles type and the source of the rock was Northern Italy. only around 120 Alpine axes have been found in Britain and Ire…

Neolithic? flint handaxe, 74mm long, 53mm wide and 17mm thick with a weight of 68.35grams. The axe is Ovoid in form and oval in cross section. It is bi- facially worked with wide, shallow re-touch on both faces and a hint of fine re-touch along one edge (upper left of darker face as shown) it has some original surface surviving on the lower right (as shown) and has more re-cortication on one face.

Neolithic polished stone axe fragment, 51mm long, 44mm wide and 14mm thick with a weight of 37.47grams. The fragment represents part of the blade end of an axe, but is very damaged with little original surface remaining. It has part of the curved blade which merges into the adjoining facetted edge, which has a thin angular face butting up to the rounded surface. The axe appears to be Langdale slate (fine grained tuff), so it could be part of a group VI axe.

The axe head is triangular in form and sub rectangular in section. It has a bulging, rounded form with narrow straight sides. Neolithic flint axe, 121mm long, 47mm wide and 26mm thick. The axe is in fair condition with some damage to each end and weighs 179 grams. The axe is made from a greyish beige flint and has been polished all over its surface. It is sub rectangular in form and section and has flat edges. It expands gently in width and depth towards the steeply curved blade, which is mostly missing. It is also missing its butt end.

Incomplete Neolithic polished stone axe, consisting of about two-thirds of a whole axe, but missing its blade end, suggesting it was broken while in use. The axe is probably of Langdale (or Charnwood?) slate and has a pale green/grey colouring with a diagonal white stripe near the rounded butt. It has irregular faceted edges with one surface having a flattened irregular shaped area. The fragment is 85mm long, 44mm wide and 26mm thick. It is in good condition and weighs 114g.

It is chipped in several places and is missing most of its blade on one side. Where it is chipped it is a pinkish colour. The blade is quite flat and the axe tapers in width from the baldes edge, terminating in a rounded tip C.10mm wide.

Neolithic stone axe, 200mm long, 57mm wide and 37mm thick. The axe appears to be made from Charnwood tuff and has a pale buff/green colour. It is in fair condition, having sustained damage to one side. The axe has a different form on each side with one surface curving gently and the other rising steeply to give an almost triangular section. Its edges have a very shallow curve and its blade end is very rounded.

Early Neolithic stone axe, 110mm long and 55mm wide. The axe is in fair condition with patches of damage and has a grey/brown patina. The axe has faceted sides c. 10mm wide at each side. The blade has been damaged and most is missing. The surface is very finely polished and its narrow end, which has some damage, is polished to a fine point. The axe is made of Volcanic Tuff, probably from Charnwood in Leicestershire or Langdale in Cumbria.

The object represents the central part of a partly polished axe, each end is missing. The edges have been very neatly flattened into tapering facets and the axe shows scars possibly caused by re-shaping in antiquity.
