A Neolithic flint core or possibly a steep scraper, dating to 4000-2350 BC. It is made on a tertiary flake f mid grey-brown flint which has patinated to blue-white. There is iron staining in the ridges. The flake retains a bulb of percussion and striking platform and the ventral face forms the platform of this single platform core. There are several small flake removals on the dorsal face of the flake from its use as a core and there are traces of the earlier flaking prior to this use. Object type: AXEHEAD
Broad period: NEOLITHIC
County: Hampshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A probable later Neolithic flint flaked axehead, dating to 2700-2350 BC. A small axehead made on a large tertiary flake of beige flint which has patinated to blue-white colour. It is lozenge shaped in cross section. The implement has been bifacially worked to thin and shape it. The axehead flares from the rounded narrow but to the damaged cutting edge making it sub triangular in shape. There are remnants of probably deliberate abrasion along the sides, possibly to blunt them for use. There is damage along both sides and the cutting edge, some of which has been re-patinated. The bulb of percussion has been removed and there are waves of percussion and hackling on the ventral face. At one edge is the remnant of a hinge fracture from the original flake. There is coarse semi-abrupt re-touch around most of the edge from the ventral face. Length: 38.32 mm Width: 37.69 mm Thickness: 12.04 mm Weight: 19.11 g

An incomplete Neolithic flint ground and polished axehead, dating to 4000-2350 BC. The flint is pale grey in colour with a chalky off-white patina and some iron staining. It is lentoid in cross section. Much of the surface of the axehead has been ground and polished. One side edge is facetted and the other os rounded. The cutting edge is out-curved and heavily polished and thinned from the body. The axehead tapers from the back of the cutting edge to the break which has removed the butt of the axe. One face of the axe has been deliberately flaked and it is possible the piece was purp…

A late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age borer, dating to 3000-1800 BC. Made on a tertiary flake of translucent pale grey flint with a low-gloss patina. The striking platform and buld have been removed. The projecting point of the borer has been formed by abrupt retouch from the ventral along one side and from the dorsal face along the other. There are earlier flake scars on the dorsal face. A late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age borer, dating to 3000-1800 BC. The implement is made from a tertiary flake of pale grey-brown flint which has patinated to a low gloss. The ventral face has a clear bulb of percussion and waves. It retains the remnant of a striking platform. At thew distal end a probably accidental fracture has been worked with abrupt re-touch from the ventral face to create the angled borer. There are earlier flaking scars on the dorsal face. A late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age borer, dating to 3000-1800 BC. The implement is made on a naturally fractured flake of mid to pale grey mottled flint with w thick layer of nodule cortex along one edge. A late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age flint fabricator, dating to 2700 - 1600 BC. It is made on a a tertiary flake of pale grey-brown flint which has patinated to an off white with iron staining. The flake retains the striking platform with a well defined bulb and waves of percussion on the ventral face.Dorsally are several elongate, parallel flaking scars. The fabricator has been made by crude, abrupt retouch along the side margins from the ventral face. Both ends are abraded, possibly to blunt them. There are two small areas of heavily abraded nodule cortex on the dorsal face. On the ventral face are waves of percussion and bulb of percussion with bulbar scar. There is a striking platform at the proximal end. The scraper has a plano-convex cross section. On the dorsal face are several large flake scars. An incomplete Neolithic flaked and polished axe, dating to 4000-2350 BC. The butt of the axe only remains. Made from mid grey flint which has patinated to a chalky off-white with iron staining. It has a lentoid cross section with well developed faceted margins. The faces of the axe are heavily polished. The butt tapers from the break to an out curved terminal. There is some recent damage to the end and sides. The break is of some age as it has re-patinated. It was possibly broken purposefully in order to reuse the raw material. A later Neolithic flaked and partially polished axehead, dating to 2700-2350 BC. The tapered butt of the axe remains. The flint was mid grey and has a patchy off-white and blue-white patina. There is a small area of abraded nodule cortex on one face of the axe. It is lozenge shaped in cross section. Some parts of the axe have been polished and it is possible that the missing cutting edge had been refined through polishing. It is also possibly unfinished as a result of the break across the body which may have occurred in an effort to thin it further. Length: 84.31 mm Width: 53.25 mm
