Possible roughout for the manufacture of an axe, or a tranchet adze, made from what is likely to be an opaque, blotchy, light grey flint with some recortication. Small spots of cortex survive. Bifacially flaked to produce a pointed oval section with some battering on edge. One end sharpened with a tranchet flake, the other steeply truncated. While this object may be a roughout it is also possible that it was a Mesolithic tranchet axe. The style of the flaking supports a Neolithic date. Length 102mm, Width 44mm, Thickness 21mm, Mass 130.2g.

Roughout for the manufacture of an axe made from what is likely to be an opaque, blotchy, light grey flint with some recortication. No cortex survives. Bifacially flaked to produce a lozenge section with some battering on edge. One end roughly pointed, the other steeply truncated with the removal of two large flakes. While this object may be a roughout it is also possible that it was a Mesolithic axe. Length 100mm, Width 38mm, Thickness 35mm, Mass 153.2g.

Roughout for the manufacture of an axe made from what is likely to be an opaque, blotchy, light grey flint with full recortication. No cortex survives. Bifacially flaked to produce a lozenge section with some battering on edge. Both ends rounded, the removal of a large, mis-struck flake may have led to abandonment.. Length 78mm, Width 34mm, Thickness 24mm, Mass 67.5g.

Roughout for the manufacture of an axe made from what is likely to be an opaque, blotchy, light grey flint with full recortication. Thick cortex survives in one area and may have been the cause of the axe's abandonment. Bifacially flaked to produce a lozenge section with some battering along the edges. One end pointed, the other with a steep truncation. Length 142mm, Width 37mm, Thickness 36mm, Mass 207.0g.

Roughout for the manufacture of an axe made from what is likely to be an opaque, blotchy, light grey flint with some recortication. No cortex present but one area of the axe appears to be unworked having a natural fracture. Bifacially flaked to produce a pointed oval section with some battering along the edges. Probably abandoned after the removal of some mis-struck flakes near the cutting edge. Length 121mm, Width 38mm, Thickness 23mm, Mass 145.2g.

Roughout for the manufacture of an axe made from an opaque, blotchy, light grey flint with some recortication. The flint is of poor quality and contains faults. Both faces retain small areas of cortex. Bifacially flaked to produce a pointed oval section with some battering along the edges. Probably abandoned after the loss of a large flake from the cutting edge. Length 182mm, Width 64mm, Thickness 42mm, Mass 482.6g.

Probable roughout for the manufacture of a an axe, made from an opaque, blotchy, grey flint with light recortication. The flint is of poor quality and contains faults. On one face is an area of cortex. Bifacially flaked, to produce a pointed oval section, the implement bears a fortuitous resemblance to a pointed handaxe, a phenomon noted on other Sussex flint mine sites (Curwen, 1954,127-8 Fig. 32). This object is best interpreted as a Neolithic roughout, abandoned early in the process of axe manufacture. Length 136mm, Width 79mm, Thickness 41mm, Mass 390.6g.
