A flint core of possible Late Mesolithic to Early Neolithic date, c. 8000-3000 BC. The core is sub-conical, with a small area of sandy cortex retained near the point, and of a patinated grey flint with one off-white, heavily patinated facet. From one section of the core have been removed a series of narrow parallel flakes, but with more irregular flakes removed to either side, although these areas are also damaged. A flint core of probable Mesolithic or Neolithic date, c. 7000-2400 BC. The core is worked from a river cobble, of a grey flint mottled with paler inclusions. It retains its cortex on c. 50% of its surface, with all removals being struck from the same face, with a single striking platform surviving at one end. These removals are sub-parallel and blade-like, although the final removals were hinged and flake-like. Dimensions: length 45.3mm; width 28.3mm; thickness 16.8mm; weight 29.09g. It is difficult to suggest a date for a single worked flint with any confidence, however, the r…
