Secondary flint blade with cortext covering c. 30 of dorsal face in a band down one side. The blade is curved with a high arched dorsal face. The aris and flaking scars on the dorsal face compared to the bulb of percussion and ripples on the ventral face show it was struck at 90 degrees to previous removals off the core and may be a core refreshment or formation flake. There are multiple long scalar abrupt removals on the dorsal face at the distal end which may relate to the original working on the core or damage from use / post-deposition. There is a area of very short, semi-abrupt s…

Four knapped flint blade like pieces, probably of Neolithic date. 1. Distal end of a secondary flake or blade. The piece has a hinge fracture at the proximal end which has removed the striking point and bulb of percussion. Scars on the dorsal face suggest this was one of several parallel removals from the same platform. The distal end is covered in thick, white cortex suggesting a chalkland origin for the flint. The flint is mid grey with paler patches. It is 19.3mm long, 26.1mm wide and 6.2mm thick; it weighs 3.74 grams. 2. Secondary blade, triangular in section and curved in pr…

Distal end of a knapped chert tertiary blade of possibly Neolithic or Mesolithic date. The bulb of percussion is missing but percusison ripples are visible on the ventral face. There are scars from previous parallel removals from the same platform on the dorsal face. There is an irregular break at the proximal end. The edges are chipped but there is no unambiguous retouch. The chert is mid grey with darker mottling. It is 22.6mm long by 14.3mm wide by 4.7mm thick; it weighs 1.59 grams.

Middle of a knapped chert tertiary blade probably of Mesolithic to Neolithic date. Straight snap at the proximal end, chipped edges and distal end. There are clear percussion ripples on the ventral face and scars from removals of two parallel blades from the same platform on the dorsal face. There is no obvious retouch and it is not clear if the snap is deliberate. Dark brown chert. 19.6mm long, 12.5mm wide and 3.0mm thick. It weighs 0.77 grams.

Proximal end of a knapped flint tertiary blade probably of Mesolithic to Neolithic date. Angled snap at the distal end. Clear bulb of percussion and ripples on the ventral face and scars from removals from the same platform on the dorsal face. A small chipped indent on the longer edge opposite the start of the snap on the other edge may be accidental or may indicate a deliberate attempt to snap it. Mid grey translucent flint. 16.4mm long, 11.5mm wide and 3.4mm thick. It weighs 0.79 grams.

Proximal end of a knapped flint blade, probably of Neolithic date. The blade has a small bulb of percussion on the ventral face and small platform at the proximal end. Regular aris and the direction of the percussion ripples on the dorsal face suggest previous blades were removed from the same core. There is a straight snap at the distal end. It is mid grey with paler mottling. It is 16.2mm long, 14.9mm wide and 5.5mm thick, it weighs 1.56 grams.

Three proximal ends of knapped flint tertiary blades. All have clear bulbs of percussions on the ventral faces and aris and ripple marks on the dorsal face suggesting previous parallel removals from the same platform. The breaks at the distal ends are all slightly irregular and two are possibly the result of notches or indents in the side of the blade that have continued into a snap. Two mid-grey flint with paler mottling, one pale grey flint. 9.05 grams. The blades are relatively broad and crude perhaps suggesting an early or mid Neolithic date.

Three central sections of knapped chert blades. All have clear percussion ripples on the ventral face and arises and percussion lines from previous flake and blade removals from the same direction on the same core on the dorsal face. The breaks are mostly irregular with only one clear snap. The snapped piece has developed a surface patina after knapping but the snap is unpatinated suggesting it is modern. The breaks on the other patinated piece also appear to be partially modern. Ignoring the white patination one is in a mid buff chert, one in mid grey and one in a dark grey (the unpa…

One short knapped flint secondary blade. The piece has been struck of a prepared platform. It has a prominent bulb on the ventral face with a large bulb scar. There are multiple parallel arises running down the length on the dorsal face and the direction of the ripples suggest previous blade like removals were made off the same platform. The dorsal face is covered with c. 40% cortex down the right edge and distal end. There are several areas of chipping down the opposite edge on both faces, this appears to be accidental damage rather than retouch although some areas, such as that at t…

Six proximal ends of secondary blades or bladelets in knapped flint. Five have straight snaps at the distal end but only one has evidence of retouch, probably where a notch was created before the piece was snapped across the remaining width. The last has an angled hinge fracture which is almost certainly accidental. All have bulbs of percussion on the ventral faces although in some cases these have been mostly removed by bulb scars. Two have been struck of clear platforms, three are unclear. One has come from a core with multi-directional working, this piece has a small area (less tha…

Two knapped flint blades both in a mid to pale grey mottled flint. One is a secondary blade which has broken down one edge leaving probably less than 50% remaining. The small bulb of percussion remains on the ventral face and some arises from previous removals on the dorsal face. There is a prepared platform at the proximal end. C. 3% cortex remains at the distal point adjacent to the break. It is 44.4mm long, 17.1mm wide and 6.3mm thick; it weighs 3.54 grams. Distal end of a secondary knapped flint blade. Hinge fracture at proximal end. Cortext covers the distal 60-70% of the blade on the dorsal face. Dark grey-brown flint. 32.9mm by 19.9mm by 4.7mm thick and 3.76 grams. While the blade is not dateable on it's own the high proportion of relatively wide blades found in the same area may suggest a Neolithic date for the assemblage.

Knapped flint tertiary blade. The blade has a small platform at the proximal end and part of a bulb of percussion on the ventral face. Most of the bulb has been removed by bulb scars. Two parallel arises and ripples running down the dorsal face suggest previous parallel removals from the same core. Chipping around the edges may be from use or later damage. It is dark grey flint with paler mottling 33.4mm long, 15.4mm wide and 3.2mm thick; it weighs 2.01g. Individual flint pieces are hard to date and this could potentially be Mesolithic to Bronze Age in date, as it was found in combi…

Large knapped flint blade of Neolithic date, c.4000-2100 BC. The blade has been struck off a prepared platform with part of the platform on the proximal end and bulb of percussion and percussion ripples remaining on the ventral face. A large chip has been removed from the distal end of the ventral face. On the dorsal face are regular parallel arises left by similar blade removals form the same platform. Knapped flint blade of probably Neolithic date that has been burnt after knapping. The piece is the middle end of the blade. There are percussion ripples on the ventral face and evidence of previous long parallel removals on the dorsal face. It is pale grey with darker mottling and white patches form the burning. Down both edges and across both broken ends it has the characteristic hackled appearence and cuboid fractures of burnt flint. It is 37.6mm long by 22.2mm wide by 6.5mm thick and weighs 6.40 grams.
