The object has a sheet metal copper end cap which sheaths the edges of the iron on both sides, and joins to a trefoil terminal with incised line decoration on the end. Both broad sides of the object show rusted iron, with copper alloy wire inlay next to a copper alloy rivet at the broken end, which would have created a decorative stalked trefoil motif on either side. It is not clear whether any organic or other material covered the iron.
