Silver knot-ring, formed of a triple strand of square sectioned wire, knotted around itself to form a bezel. The diameter is 22mm, thickness 8mm and the weight is 2.20g.
This basic style of slip-knotted wire ring had a long life (there are Roman examples) but was perhaps most popular in the 7th century AD, when it was most commonly used on necklaces. Finger rings of a similar knotted design, but of either round section or strip, have been commonly found in Viking graves and hoards of the later 9th and earlier 10th centuries (Graham-Campbell 1980).
