Broad period: MODERN
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete copper alloy post-medieval sword or dagger chape. Only one half of the chape survives. This is roughly rectangular in shape, but curving slightly one one side at the lower end. There is a rough break across the upper end with a raised diagonal ridge across the outer face below it. The lower end terminates in a circular knob. The reverse is hollow with a diagonal bar across the lower end, holding the fragmentary remains of some wood in place. Despite the damage mentioned the metal survives in good condition with a fine dark green patina. There similar, asymetrical chap…

County: Essex
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An incomplete copper alloy modern female figurine, probably from a pipe tamper. The figure is standing with her arms up holding the folds of a long flowing dress. Her outfit and hair appear Classical or perhaps east Asian in style, but are also reminiscent of early 20th century fashions perhaps suggesting a similar date for the piece. There is a break at the figure's feet where it was probably attached to the rest of a tamper, although it may also have been part of a spoon or similar object. Several similar pipe tampers featuring female figures in flowing garments and Classical sty…

A complete copper alloy probably modern mount or button. It is oval in shape with a flat recessed reverse that has a small hole at either end revealling a hollow interior. The outer face has a moulded rectangle in the centre with two raised transverse lines across one side creating a sewn effect. In the centre of the reverse is a small attachment loop that would have held the item snugly against leather or fabric, suggesting that it was likely to have been a decorative mount or stud rather than a functional button. Its constuction, decoration and fine condition suggest that it may be …
