An incomplete copper-alloy button of Post-Medieval to Modern date. It has a flat, disc shaped head, at the back centre of which is an incomplete circular sewing lug that is missing its outer edge due to old breaks. The front face of the button carries a livery comprising a central crown within an inner border, with traces of an added white metal coating. This is surrounded by a legend reading IMPERIAL FIRE INSURANCE COMPANY. The name of the button manufacturer stamped on the back face is illegible due to post-depositional corrosion. They are impaled with those of his wife, Elizabeth Eleanor Cornwall, daughter of John Cornwall of Hendon, Middlesex, whom he married in 1783 and who died in 1809. The entire arms may be descib…
