A copper-alloy 1849 California "Gold rush" gaming token in the form of a Liberty head half eagle gold piece.
The obverse depicts Liberty with a coronet in her hair, encircled by thirteen stars, symbolic of the thirteen original colonies (one star is missing due to a hole drilled through the coin). Below the head is the date 1849. The reverse depicts a "49er" gold miner with top hat crouching by a river. The miner holds a very large nugget. A modern lead-alloy circular seal depicting two squirrels facing each other, each holding the top of a shield, dating to c. 1900-1950. There is a banner above and between them, a hand above the shield in benediction; the squirrels stand on a base. The scene refers to the arms of Kilmarnock. It is identical on both sides and the two circles have been folded onto each other to create the seal. This example is very worn.
It measures 14 mm in diameter, 3 mm in thickness, and weighs 2.98 g
