An incomplete Georgian silver 'porte crayon' or propelling pencil, probaby dating 1800-1830. The pencil is formed of a ribbed cylinder with a collar around the centre. The collar has a central raised band decorated with possible floral motifs, flanked on either side by a beaded band and a plain band. The object is damaged at both ends and is now slightly bent. A silver eagle of probable modern date (circa 1800-1900). The eagle is shown standing with wings outstretched. The eagle is depicted very naturalistically; etched lines and curves add detail to the feathers of the wings and the tail, and also the head. The eagle's head is slightly turned to its left, and in its mouth is a large wreath with two tastles below. The feet are missing. While eagles in similar pose are known from the Roman period, the style and execution of this particular item is more appropriate in the 19th century. The item was probably used as a furniture fitting or a…

A silver three cents piece of the United States of America, struck between 1851-1853 at Philadelphia. Slightly less than half the coin survives. Obverse: Nationalistic shield on six-pointed star, encircled by [UNITE]D STATES OF A[MERICA] Reverse: Roman numeral III (representing the value) set within an ornate 'C', encircled by [13] stars. The silver three cents piece was struck between 1851 and 1873, but the absence of arrows beneath the value mark III, in addition to the single outline seen on the star on the obverse, allows this coin to be defined as the first of the main t…

In the centre of the bracelet is a silver sheet collar, flanked on both sides by three hollow spheres of silver. The method of construction, form, and style all indicate a modern, probably ethnographic origin.

A silver perpetual calendar from a Georgian porte crayon. The object is a silver tube inscribed with six bands each divided into seven squares. The upper five bands are inscribed with four x's followed by the numbers 1-31. The lower band is inscribed with the initials of the days of the week. A similar calender from a porte crayon is illustrated on the front cover of 'Collecting Pencils', by Courtier, Marshall & Marshall (second revised edition). The object was probably made by the Birmingham silversmith Joseph Willmore (1803-45) in 1817.

Silver coin made into a home-made identity tag or token. The details of the coin are completely worn on both sides and are now replaced with punched dots bearing a name. On one side the coin reads: R PIN. The letter 'N' meets the edge of the coin and presumably this side was abandoned because the text was started in the wrong place. The other side reads: R PINDER/SALTFLEET. The identity of R PINDER is uncertain although there is was a B PINDER serving in the Saltfleetby home guard during the second world war. If the first name was Robert, this could account for the use of both…
