A gold circular hoop or ring with a tubular element projecting at one point, that could be part of a swivel fitting, probably from a fob or watch chain. The object has no hallmarks or stamps, but the condition, style and construction suggest a Modern date of AD 1800 - 1980. The hoop is circular in cross-section. The tubular fitting has a square base with a circular recess, and then a reel moulded circular tube that passes completely through the hoop. It is 24.6mm long, 23.1mm wide and 3mm thick. 2.6g.

A Modern lead bag seal of Henry Tate and Sons Ltd. dating from AD 1869 to 1916. It is a sub-circular disc with two sideways slots through the thickness of the seal. It is 20.1mm long, 17.7mm wide and 4.7mm thick. 7.9g. A fragment of probably modern partially melted glass, probably dating from AD 1850 - 2000. It is translucent and colourless, with no internal structure visible. The two main faces and all the unbroken edges are sinuous, suggesting this is glass that has been melted and solidified, rather than a naturally occurring quartz crystal. Two edges are breaks displaying conchoidal fractures. It is 25mm long, 23mm wide and 7.7mm thick. 6.3g.  Modern glass would not normally be recorded, but it was found on a site of prehistoric activity where a knapped rock crystal lithic implement ha…

A folded piece of thick lead sheet, of Post Medieval to Modern date, about 1851 - 1863, with a circular impression on the inner faces, probably from being folded around a coin. The lead is sub-rectangular, folded in half across the width, with the corners at each end of the fold trimmed off. The other sides are slightly concave and irregular. The sheet is 2.1mm thick. It was found folded closed, but when opened by the finder, the inner faces could be seen to have a circular impression on them. The circle is 32mm diameter and there are hints of a circumferential legend, suggesting…

A metal unidentified object of modern date, with magnetic properties, perhaps made of steel, nickel or cobalt, perhaps in an alloy with other metals. It is a circular disc with rounded edges and a circular hole in the centre of one face. Each circular face is slightly concave, and the surface is damaged with deep dents and pieces missing, and is also faceted, perhaps from the impact of percussive blows. A significant crack, intersecting with the central hole, is also visible running most of the way across the face without the hole, and from the hole to the edge on the other face. Both…

A sheet silver spherical bell, made in one piece and without any obvious casting seams, probably of Modern date, AD 1900 - 2019. It has a copper alloy pea trapped inside. There is a circular suspension loop at the top of the bell, apparently cast in one with the walls. There is a sound slit across the lower hemisphere, expanding to triangular holes at each end. This slit is not aligned with the suspension loop. One known form of bell has a casting seam running round the edge of the loop and down the sides of the bell, being left open to form the slit. This bell has the slit at right a…

A cast lead bag seal dating from the Modern period, probably about AD 1896-1919. It is of discoidal form, with three slots through which wire or twine would have passed to secure the bag. It has a diameter of 19.38mm, a maximum thickness of 5.67mm, and weighs 8.69g. The seal is for the company of Spillers and Bakers who established a factory in Newcastle in 1896, milling flour, but also producing dog biscuits and equine food. The company changed its name to Spillers Milling in 1919, and as it is possible, with the eye of faith, to see the base of an ampersand in the legend, it is sugg…
