An incomplete Mesolithic to Neolithic flint adze (c. 9000 BC-c. 3500 BC), The butt is missing due to an old transverse break. This implement is sub-rectangular in plan and sub-triangular in cross-section. It has been bi-facially worked on both faces and has highly invasive removals. In side view it is oblique at the cutting edge. The dorsal surface has a longitudinal median ridge that extends from the butt end to about half way along its length. The cutting edge is curved and on the dorsal face there is minimal retouch which is short, sub-parallel and low angled. A small area of buff…

A Mesolithic or Neolithic flint adze or pick (c. 10000 -c. 3500 BC) . This object has been made on an elongated flint nodule. It is sub-oval in cross-section except at the butt end where it is sub triangular in cross-section. The dorsal face has about 80% off-white cortex and the ventral face has been crudely flaked all over. A large indentation on the ventral face appears to have been made deliberately. The implement seems not to have a cutting edge but may have been damaged while in use. However, the patina is the same as elsewhere. The butt end is worked overall and is relatively f…

A complete Mesolithic (possibly) to Neolithic (possibly) flint lithic implement, possibly a projectile point (c. -7000 BC-c. 3500 BC). This implement, made on a tertiary blade, is sub-triangular in plan and cross-section. The dorsal face has three major negative flake removals. The dorsal face has been retouched all around the edges including the proximal end adjacent to the striking platform where the retouch is very fine. This retouch around the edges is short, largely parallel and semi-abrupt. On the ventral face the bulb of percussion has been removed in the process of making t…

A complete Mesolithic to Early Neolithic chert adze or axehead (c. 10000 BC-c. 3500 BC). This implement is an elongated oval shape in plan. In side view it is pointed at the butt end and oblique at the cutting edge. The dorsal face is characteristically humped. Flake removal scars cover all surfaces and there is no cortex. Particularly large flakes have been removed on the ventral face at its mid point, possibly to facilitate hafting. The ridge on one side is mildly 'S'-shaped and the other ridge is straighter. The cutting edge appears to have old damage at its apex. The impleme…

A Mesolithic to Early Neolithic flint blade (10000 BC-3501 BC). This tertiary blade is sub-rectangular in plan and sub-triangular in cross-section. The dorsal face is divided longitudinally by a single median arris. Removals around the edge of the dorsal face have been interpreted as damage rather than retouch. The ventral face has undulating ripples but no bulb of percussion and it is possible that the proximal end has been truncated. The blade has a shiny greyish black patina overall.
