Prehistoric antler from either a large Cervus species, or an Elk (Alces alces). The antler's bud measures 65mm x 65mm, and does not appear large enough to be from an Irish elk (Megaloceros giganteus). The breaks on the antler have occurred post deposition. There are no blade marks on the antler so it may have died of natural causes. There are few signs of abrasion so it is unlikely to have moved far from its original deposition site. Dates between 10,000 and 1,900 BC. There doesn't appear to have been any significant mineralisation of the organic material s…

Prehistoric antler from either a large Cervus species, or an Elk (Alces alces). The antler's bud measures 75mm x 62mm, and does not appear large enough to be from an Irish elk (Megaloceros giganteus). The breaks on the antler have occurred post deposition. Dates between 10,000 and 1,900 BC, probably from the earlier Mesololithic as the antler is partially mineralised. Length 378mm, width 331mm, thickness 62mm, and weighs approximately 8000g.

Mesolithic to mid Bronze Age quartzite perforated implement made by modifying a natural quartzite pebble by drilling an hour glass mounting hole. Often described as mace heads, partly due to similar objects being used as such in parts of Africa, the exact purpose of these perforated stones is unclear. However this one demonstrates wear on its point consistent with being used to strike a hard surface. It can therefore be supposed that this artefact may have fractured during use. Dates to between c10000 and c1000 BC. These objects are hard to date as perforated objects with hour glass h…

Secondary worked black chert, probably late Mesolithic to early Neolithic debitage or multi platform core or possibly an implement abandoned during manufacture. Ventral & dorsal are impossible to distinguish but on one side there are four near parallel removals from the better quality chert and on the other side further intersecting scars that suggest this may once have been part of a core. Cortex has been retained on around 30% of the surface. Dates to between c7000 and c3500 BC.

Mesolithic to early Neolithic tertiary flake of off white translucent quartz. Probably debitage but possibly a poorly made bladelet or microlith as there is retouch (short, sub-parallel, abrupt) along one mesal. It has been snapped off at the proximal end and the distal terminates in flawed stone. Dates to between c8000 and c3500 BC. The length is 10mm, width 5mm, and the weight is 0.11g.
