Flint single-platform microlith blade core, triangular in plan, oval in section and trapezoidal in profile. The core has had blades taken off it on only two thirds of the way around its central axis, with a layer of cortex running from one third of the edge of the platform down to the base of the core.
The flint is a translucent brown-grey colour and the curvature of the core suggests that it was made from a local beach pebble. The length to breadth ratio is 4:5, which is usual for micro-cores.
Bond (2004) illustrates similar examples on page 120, Fig.5.104, No.82, which is dated…

Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Flint single-platform micro-blade core, oval in plan, sub-rectangular in section and semi-circular in profile, with a deep hinge fracture at the base. All faces around the circumference of the core show the scars from the flake removal for producing microliths, from the layer of cortex at the distal end to the ridged and stepped proximal end.
The flint is a mottled grey to brown colour with white speckles and its colour and curvature suggest that has probably come from a local beach pebble. The length to breadth ratio is about 1:1, which is usual for micro cores.

Flint transverse arrowhead, 'petit tranchet' type, triangular in plan, lozenge-shape in profile, and flat in section. All margins have been unifacially retouched on the dorsal face and there is a bevelled 'tranchet' edge on the right margin of the dorsal face, running from the snapped proximal end above the bulb of percussion, to the apex of the triangle at the distal end.
The flint is a mottled light to dark grey colour and has the remains of fragments of cortex at the proximal end adn at the third apex of the arrowhead, at its base, where it would have been hafted onto an arrow sh…

Chert chopping tool, semi-circular in plan and lozenge-shaped in profile and section, where about 50% of the surface is still covered in cortex. The right margin has been worked bifacially into an edge. The working edges were either flaked unifacially and referred to as 'choppers' or bifacially, as this one was, and referred to as 'chopping tools' to create a cutting edge. They retain considerable amounts of cortex, especially on the butts, enabling them to be comfortably held in the hand. Chopping tools are occasionally found on Mesolithic sites and are made on rounded or oval nodule…

Flint single-platform micro-core, sub-rectangular in plan, and triangular in profile and section. The core has had flakes taken off from all edges of the sub-rectangular platform. There is a small patch of cortex of the original beach pebble on the flatter face of the core. The flint is a light grey colour and was likely derived from a local beach pebble.
Bond (2004) illustrates a similar example on page 120, Fig.5.104, No.71, which is dated from the later Mesolithic.

Fragment of a large chert knife, trapezoidal in plan and section, and rhomboidal in profile. The dorsal face has been unifacially retouched around the squared-off proximal end and down each margin, creating a serrated edge on each side. Flakes have been taken off the top of the dorsal face to flatten the medial ridge, which has left two concave areas in the middle section. The fragment is not broken at both ends but has snapped across the distal side. The proximal end has a tranverse flake which has been taken off at the point of percussion, leaving the bulb of percussion beyond it in…

Flint four-sided microblade or microlith, rectangular in plan and trapezoidal in profile and section, with a backed left margin of the dorsal face, and a retouched right margin, parallel to the left. The distal and proximal ends have both been snapped off to create squared-off parallel ends, which may have made it easier for multiple hafting of bladelets side by side to create one cutting edge.
The colour of the flint is a mottled orange to light brown, and there is a small segment of cortex remaining on the left margin of the dorsal face, towards the proximal end, which suggests th…

Eighteen flint micro-cores of similar size, with flat platforms, generally plano-convex in profile and section, and a few with more tapering ends so that they are triangular in profile.
The cores have had various bladelets removed from their sides, struck from the platform, and almost all are single platform cores, apart from two with two platforms, which are also the only two cores without any cortex remaining.
The cores are a mottled light to dark grey colour and almost all of them have some cortex remaining on one side, which suggests that they were derived from local beach peb…

Ten flint single-platform micro-blade cores, of similar size and shape, generally oval in plan and sub-rectangular in profile and section. All faces around the circumference of the cores show the scars from the flake removal for producing microliths, from the edges of the layers of cortex remaining on each core.
The flint is a mottled light to dark grey colour which suggests, along with the curvature of the cores, that they have been derived from local beach pebbles. The length to breadth ratio is about 1:1, which is usual for micro cores. The measurements below represent the averag…

Flint single-platform blade core, ovate in plan, triangular in profile and trapezoidal in section. Flakes have been removed all of the way around the circumference of the core, from the platform edge, and only a very thin layer of cortex remains on a small part (about 15 mm) of the edge.
The flint is a mottled light grey colour and may have been derived from a local beach pebble which has since been exposed to heat and cold so that the colour of the flint has become lighter. The core has also been in contact with iron which has left staining on most of the edges. The length to bread…

Flint flake scraper or bladelet, sub-oval in plan, and trapezoidal in profile and in section. Long flakes have been taken off the dorsal face, vertically, from the proximal to the distal end, and laterally from the edge of the cortex to the unimarginally reworked left edge of the dorsal face. The dorsal margin of the proximal end has also been worked and the distal end has been snapped off.
The flint is a mottled light grey colour with cortex surviving along the right edge of the dorsal face and the length to breadth ratio is exactly 2:1.

Flint microlithic blade or saw, rectangular in plan, lozenge-shaped in profile and triangular in section. The distal end and right margin have been unifacially worked on the dorsal face. The ventral face retains part of the bulb of percussion at the proximal end. There is no cortex remaining on the surface of the flint which suggests that this is a tertiary flake.
The flint is a mottled dark to light grey colour and the ratio of length to breadth is 3:1.
Bond (2004) illustrates a similar example on page 95, Fig.5.81, No.6, which is identified as a microlithic saw (after Wymer 1977).

Incomplete flint chopper, semi-circlular in plan and lozenge-shaped in profile and section. The dorsal and ventral faces are both retouched along the existing margin, at the chopping edge, but the edge is also damaged and fractured so that it has a stepped appearance. The edges of the flake scars are generally smooth and the surface appears to have been water-worn. A patch of cortex remains near the broken edge on the ventral face.
The flint is a mottled grey-buff colour with orange patches on the surface where the flint has been stained from proximity to iron, but the colour and te…
