A large flint cylindrical core of probable Mesolithic to Neolithic date. It is an a large, elongated shape, sub-triangular in cross-section. There are long, narrow blade scars on one face and smaller flake scars on the others running in a different direction. Working is limited and undiagnostic so a broad date range is suggested here.

Two chert multi-platform cores found fairly close together. Both show limited amounts of working in the form of several large flaking scars and a few long, thin ones. Both have orangey pebble cortex remaining in places. Both vary in colour from greenish-grey to orangey-brown with whitish patches and both have a shiny yet granular texture. The visible working is fairly crude and therefore undiagnostic meaning that they could date from the Mesolithic to early Bronze Age.

A very small probable single-platform flint core. A small amount of cortex remains on one face. Although it is extremely small in size, the object does appear to be a tiny core rather than core rejuvenation flake as there is a distinct single platform and extremely small, parallel flakes have been removed from around the edges of this forming a roughly conical shape. Due to its small size and consequent undiagnostic nature it is difficult to date the core beyond Mesolithic to early Bronze Age. The flint is dark grey in colour with a very small amount of speckled patination in places.

A multi-platform flint core of Mesolithic to early Bronze Age date. Much of the core is still covered with chalky pebble cortex and the working is very limited. It may possibly show signs of two different phases of working; several probable flaking scars are covered with a thick, milky patina. These appear to be the result of knapping rather than natural processes, but it is difficult to be definate about this as the patination obscures the typical signs. A few, presumably later, scars reveal the mid-grey flint below this patination and are more clearly the result of working. All of t…

A large chert multi-platform core, of Mesolithic to early Bronze Age date. The object is roughly cuboid in shape. Around 50% of one face is covered with cortex. The other faces show limited signs of working, consisting of a few large parallel flaking scars and a few smaller, more irregularly shaped scars. Due to the undiagnostic nature of the object it could date from the Mesolithic to early Bronze Age.

A small multi-face flint core, which shows signs of working almost every surface apart from one area where a small amount of rough yellow-brown cortex remains. This working takes the form of many irregular scars where small flakes of varying shapes have been removed. However, the undiagnostic nature of these scars makes it difficult to date the core beyond a probable Mesolithic to early Bronze Age date range. The flint is dark grey with lighter coloured patches. The patina varies from shiny to a milky matt.

A complete small flint core. The core is uniface, with a series of long, thin and slightly broader scars on each face. One face has a series of smaller flaking scars around its outside edges. The flint is buff-brown coloured with a matt patina at one end and darker grey-brown with a shiny patina at the other end. As the object is fairly undiagnotic it could easily be of Mesolithic to early Bronze Age date. However, as it was found in the same field as five microliths, it is perhaps more likely to belong to earlier in this period.

Small single platform core, with a number of long, thin and small flakes removed. A small amount of platform preparation is present around one side. The flint is grey in colour, with lighter speckles and a fairly shiny patina. This core probably dates from the Mesolithic to early Neolithic.

25 worked flint cores (some probably chert, or a chert-like flint). All from the same site, which has yielded a wide range of flint tools and flint working debris of Mesolithic to early Bronze Age date. The cores are fairly uniform in size, though there are a few larger ones. Most are single platform, albeit largely quite irregular in shape. The degree of working varies, but is generally fairly limited. The flaking scars are long and thin or very small on all of the cores, so this is not mentioned in the individual descriptions below. The flint varies in quality, but is largely poor qu…

A large flint core. The flint is dark grey-brown in colour, with a large section of cortex remaining on one side. A few long scars may be seen on the opposite side, along with some smaller scars towards one end. However, the core is not heavily worked. Because the working is relatively undiagnostic this core could be of Mesolithic to Neolithic date.

Flintworking core, probably dating to the Mesolithic or Neolithic. The object has a relatively flat upper surface, with three large, triangular flakes removed. Below this it tapers roughly to a point, with approximately three faces. One face is largely unworked, with a patch of pebble cortex remaining. The other faces have several long thin flaking scars. The flint is mid grey in colour with milky patches and a shiny patina in most places.

Small flint core of probable Mesolithic to Neolithic date. Only the upper half is worked, the lower is still covered in pebble cortex. Flint core. Highly worked, probably due to lack of naturally occurring flint in the area. Mostly long, linear, narrow flaking scars, with some slightly wider ones. The flint is dark grey in colour, with small creamy yellow-grey patches. Probably Mesolithic to early Neolithic in date.
