Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A complete retouched flint blade of probable Mesolithic to early Neolithic date. A elongated tertiary blade with rounded ends. A light coloured, translucent flint with medium patination on both faces. There are patches of crude, short, abrupt potential retouch along both edges, which has removed this patination, suggesting later re-working of an older re-discovered blade (although the crude nature of this retouch suggests it may be partially or completely due to natural damage). Length: 54.6mm, width: 19.1mm, thickness: 5.8mm, weight: 6.8g

A complete Mesolithic to early Neolithic retouched flint blade with evidence of reworking. It is a secondary flake with a little cortex still remaining at the proximal end of the dorsal face. It is long, narrow and slightly curved in shape with a humped dorsal face and flat ventral face. There are several long flaking scars on the dorsal face. There is a thick white patination on all surfaces, but there a few patches of low-angle, scaled, short retouch along both edges of the ventral face and the left edge of the dorsal face have removed this patintion suggesting that they are later r…

A flint side scraper or blade of Mesolithic to early Bronze Age date. Formed from a tertiary flake. It is long and thin in form, with a rounded distal end. There is a prominent bulb of percussion on the ventral face, which has been partially removed, suggesting that it was struck with a hard hammer. There is a small amount of short, sub-parallel, abrupt retouch along the right side extending from the proximal end to the centre and a patches along the left side. The surface is covered in thick off-white recortication. This has been removed by the retouch, so may be evidence of reuse. …

A flint side scraper or blade of probable Mesolithic to Neolithic date. Formed from a secondary flake, a small smount of hard pebble cortex remains on the distal end. It is sub-rectangular in form with two long flaking scars on the dorsal face. There is a prominent bulb of percussion on the ventral face suggesting that it was struck with a hard hammer. There is a small amount of short, sub-parallel, abrupt retouch in the middle of the right edge of the dorsal face, which causes the side to curve inwards slightly, perhaps intended to facilitate grip during use. A flint fragment probably from a blade or possibly from crude tool. Secondary flake. There are three long, thin flaking scars on the dorsal face. The edges are uneven, particularly the left edge of the dorsal face, which may possibly have a small amount of short, scaled, low angle retouch, creating a serrated edge. In the centre of the right edge is a small blunt point. There is a shrap break at the distal end. Hard hammer struck. The flint varies in colour from light to mid brown with reddish veins and has a shiny patina. Probably of Mesolithic to early Neolithic date. Length: 18.5…

A chert blade. Tertiary flake. There is a clean, straight break at the distal end. The dorsal face has two long, thin flaking scars either side of a central ridge. There are a few small scars at the distal end, creating a rounded edge - probably the result of platform preparation. There is no evidence of further retouch. The chert is dark brown in colour with a granular texture. It is probably of Meolithic to early Neolithic date Length: 21.75mm, Width: 12.38mm, Thickness: 4.83mm, Weight: 1.36g

Flint blade on a secondary flake of probable Mesolithic to early Neolithic date. The object is long, thin and trapezoidal in cross-section. There are two long, central removals on the dorsal face, flanked on each side by a further long one. The removal to the left remains covered with cortex. Patches of very fine, irregular retouch can be seen along both edges, creating a serrated effect. Further abrupt, short, scaled retouch can be seen at the distal end, creating a slight point. Flint blade on a tertiary flake probably of Mesolithic to early Neolithic date. The object is long, thin and sub-triangular in cross-section. There is possibly a small amount of crude, irregular retouch along both edges, creating a serrated edge that remains quite sharp. However, some of this is also due to post-depositional damage. The flint is mid-grey in colour with some lighter patches and speckles, and orange staining in places from the soil. Length: 21.60mm, Width: 12.15mm, Thickness: 4.26mm, Weight: 1.2g

Flint blade, probably dating to the Mesolithic. The blade is long and thin. It has three flaking scars on the dorsal face. Both ends have been snapped leaving them blunt. There is a small notch missing on the right edge of the ventral face at the proximal end. Whether this was produced deliberately or is later damage is unclear. Small flint blade, made from a tertiary flake, probably dating from the Mesolithic to Neolithic. The dorsal face has two long thin flaking scars. There is possibly some very limited retouch along the left-hand edge of the dorsal face. However, this could equally represent later plough damage following deposition. Indeed, the blade is heavily plough damaged and either end has broken away, suggesting that it was originally longer. The flint is light grey in colour with milky repatination in places on both the dorsal and ventral faces. Length: 17.84mm, Width: 12.51mm, Thickness: 4.41m…
