Two chert multi-platform cores found fairly close together. Both show limited amounts of working in the form of several large flaking scars and a few long, thin ones. Both have orangey pebble cortex remaining in places. Both vary in colour from greenish-grey to orangey-brown with whitish patches and both have a shiny yet granular texture. The visible working is fairly crude and therefore undiagnostic meaning that they could date from the Mesolithic to early Bronze Age. A flint fragment probably from a blade or possibly from crude tool. Secondary flake. There are three long, thin flaking scars on the dorsal face. The edges are uneven, particularly the left edge of the dorsal face, which may possibly have a small amount of short, scaled, low angle retouch, creating a serrated edge. In the centre of the right edge is a small blunt point. There is a shrap break at the distal end. Hard hammer struck. The flint varies in colour from light to mid brown with reddish veins and has a shiny patina. Probably of Mesolithic to early Neolithic date. Length: 18.5…

A chert blade. Tertiary flake. There is a clean, straight break at the distal end. The dorsal face has two long, thin flaking scars either side of a central ridge. There are a few small scars at the distal end, creating a rounded edge - probably the result of platform preparation. There is no evidence of further retouch. The chert is dark brown in colour with a granular texture. It is probably of Meolithic to early Neolithic date Length: 21.75mm, Width: 12.38mm, Thickness: 4.83mm, Weight: 1.36g

Three fragments of flint working debitage found fairly close together. All have long, thin flaking scars on the dorsal face suggesting that they are rejuvenation flakes from blade cores. The first two flakes show signs of platform preparation. They could date from any point from the Mesolithic to early Bronze Age. 1. A possible chert burin of Mesolithic to early Neolithic date, created on a tertiary flake. The object is long and thin. It has a slightly concave ventral face and slightly convex dorsal face. There are a few long, thin flaking scars on the dorsal face and a small protrusion to the left of the proximal end above which a spall appears to have been deliberately removed from the left edge. A further spall appears to have been removed from the right edge. There is a blunt break at the distal end, which may possibly have occured following deposition. The chert is a very light, creamy brown …

A very small probable single-platform flint core. A small amount of cortex remains on one face. Although it is extremely small in size, the object does appear to be a tiny core rather than core rejuvenation flake as there is a distinct single platform and extremely small, parallel flakes have been removed from around the edges of this forming a roughly conical shape. Due to its small size and consequent undiagnostic nature it is difficult to date the core beyond Mesolithic to early Bronze Age. The flint is dark grey in colour with a very small amount of speckled patination in places. …

A possible flint burin of Mesolithic to early Neolithic date. A secondary flake, with a very small amount of cortex remaining at the proximal end of the dorsal face. Two spalls appear to have been deliberately removed from either side of what is roughly the proximal end, removing the bulb and butt and leaving inwards curving scars that join to create a point. There are several long, thin and smaller flaking scars positioned at different angles on the dorsal face. A few small flakes have also been removed from the right edge of the ventral face. 3 fragments of flintworking debris or microliths of Mesolithic to early Bronze Age date, all with abrupt breaks at one end. Each has part of a notch to one side of the break, which could indicate that they are microliths, but this seems unlikely as in each case the break seems to have exposed the original flint below the patination suggesting that it occured after deposition. 1. 5 flint blades or bladelets, some possibly non-formal lithic implements, of Mesolithic to early Neolithic date. Most have a very small amount of possible retouch, but are so crudely formed that they are difficult to classify asa particular tool type. Some of this retouch forms rough points, notches and scraping edges and so they can perhaps be broadly described as non-formal tools - objects that will generally form a significant component of most flint assemblages as discarded waste flakes could easily have been picked up and fashioned quickly on the spot to be used for a specifc purp…

A multi-platform flint core of Mesolithic to early Bronze Age date. Much of the core is still covered with chalky pebble cortex and the working is very limited. It may possibly show signs of two different phases of working; several probable flaking scars are covered with a thick, milky patina. These appear to be the result of knapping rather than natural processes, but it is difficult to be definate about this as the patination obscures the typical signs. A few, presumably later, scars reveal the mid-grey flint below this patination and are more clearly the result of working. All of t…

A probable flint microburin of Mesolithic to early Neolithic date. A long, fairly thin tertiary flake, removed using a hard hammer. To the left side (when viewed from the dorsal face), at the distal end, there is a small notch. This may be the result of accidental or post-depositional damage, but is a typical feature of microburins, where a notch is deliberately created to allow the microlith to be snapped away. A probable flint awl of Meolithic to early Bronze Age date. A long, thin, tertiary flake. There are two long flaking scars to the right of the dorsal face and some very crude low angle, invasive retouch to the right. The awl has been created at the proximal end of the dorsal face via the removal of a few rough flakes to either side. This has also removed the bulb on the ventral face and the butt. The very tip of the point is now missing. There is a sharp break at the distal end. It is unclear whether this is original or later damage. The flint is light grey in colour with a thick, mil…
