A complete stone axe of Mesolithic to Neolithic date (c. 8,300 to 2,500 BC). In plan the axe is an irregular ellipse, having a slightly wider cutting edge than the butt. An hour-glass shaped hole extends through the axe; this hole is off-centred, being located approximately one third in from the butt. In section the axe is oval with flattened sides. Both the butt and the cutting edge are pointed oval in section. Some damage has occured to the cutting edge, exposing a green coloured grain somewhat similar to the greenstone sources at Langdale, Cumbria. The butt is flat. Length: 126mm, …

Approximately half of a Mesolithic to Neolithic (8,300 to 4,500 BC) stone pebble hammer or mace head. The mace would have been circular in plan, with a diameter of about 95mm; in section it is oval. The perforation has an hour-glass profile and measures 35mm in diameter. The weight is 154g. The stone is hard, charcoal-grey in colour, and fine-grained. The uncertain tool type and large date range is due to problems in assigning this artefact a specific class. An incomplete flint axe, probably a 'tranchet' type dating to the late Mesolithic or early Neolithic. The axe is slender in plan, tapering to a narrow rounded butt. In cross-section the axe is pointed oval. Both sides are worked, and there appears to be an area of polish - presumably through wear - at the butt-end. The flint is mottled brown in colour and patinated all over.

A flint core. The core is roughly pointed oval in cross-section and roughly rectangular in plan. The proximal end is flat and all of the elongated flakes now represented by scars and bulbs of percussion run from this end. Some of the scars have a reddish-rust coloured patina. Probably late Mesolithic given the style of flake removal.

A flint core made from an elongated nodule of flint. The nodule is roughly rectangular in plan, oval in cross-section and comma shaped in profile. The concave side is covered with a brown coloured cortex. Flake scars run between 60 and 70mm in length and have been taken from both ends. The flint is dark brown in colour. Possibly Mesolithic given the length of the blades being knapped.

Perforated object, half of a stone 'mace head', broken across the haft hole. The mace is an elongated oval in plan and has an hour glass shaped hole drilled in the centre. At one end of the hole there is a series of vertical grroves, approximately 5mm in length and spaced circa 1mm apart. These marks might have been intentionally made to increase the grip of bone wedges forced into the socket in order to make the haft more secure. Perforated stone object. The mace head is made from a large pebble, roughly oval in plan and has a drilled hole in the centre on either side however they do not go all the way through. Both holes have a distinct darker stain beginning approximately half way down. The surface of the mace has been polished and is very smooth to the touch. The perimeter of the mace is also smooth and shows no evidence of useage.

Incomplete perforated stone object. The mace head is oval in plan and has a drilled hole in the centre on either side however they do not go all the way through. The surface of the mace has been polished and is very smooth to the touch. The macehead has split on one side exposing two clear striations in the stone. These striations were probably weak points in the stone which eventually caused the split. Approximately one half of one side is missing. The perimeter of the mace is very worn and abdaded, and looks to have been caused by use rather than by post-depositional wear.
