Fragment of a flint axe, pointed oval section and probably representing the cutting edge end of the implement truncated leaving a single hinge fracture where the termination occured. While some shaping has been carried out, although it appears that the cutting edge was not finished. The axhead has undergone coarse, bifacial, flaking and is now fully recorticated. The flint appears patchy suggesting that a mixed grey opaque flint was used. . Length 77mm, Width 74mm, Thickness 34mm, Mass 261.0g

Flaked flint adze, section keeled/ trapezoid with the wider face convex. Made from opaque grey/ brown flint with some light recortication. Traces of the original cortex present in some areas. The flaking is finer than is usually seen on tranchet axes and the adze was sharpened by the removal of a series of flakes from the cutting edge which has suffered some damage, parhaps as a result of use. This object is difficult to date and both Mesolithic and Late Neolithic dates are possible. Length 123mm, Width 46mm, Thickness 34mm, Mass 198.7g

Flint adze fragment, probabley from a Mesolithic tranchet type. The implement has a trapezoid/ keeled section with one flat face from which the other two faces were worked by the removal of large flakes. The flat face is curved (slightly concave) along its length. Sharpening was achieved by the removal of large flakes from the cutting edge which has suffered some damage, probably as a result of use. Partical recortication on a light grey, opaque flint. Small patch of cortex on flat face. Length 113mm, Width 43mm, Thickness 31mm, Mass 163.6g

This object resembles a small handaxe and it might be interpreted as a Late Neolithic 'ovate'. However, there are indications that the object represents the truncated remains of a Mesolithic tranchet axehead. Its section, with the broad edge being sharpened and the pointed end blunt, is the reverse of what would be expected on a Late Neolithic ovate. It is not recorticated and the worn state of its surface suggests that it pre-dates the late Neolithic. The flint is opaque and mixed buff and light brown. Sharpening was not carried out by means of the removal of tranchet flake but by re…
