Object type: PICK
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: East Sussex
Workflow stage: Published
Mesolithic pick made from a flint nodule, cortex present on one one side, the other surfaces are covered by white recortication. The general section is keeled with one flat face which may, in part, be natural. Coarse flaking covers all faces of the object and, at one end, is a chisel-like point, perpendicular to the axis of the keel. Along the back of the keel is a band of battering. While this object resembles FAKL-B29348 no independant parallels have been found for this object although a Mesolithic date seems likely. Length 130mm, Width 47mm, Thickness 59mm, Mass 389.1g

Mesolithic pick made from a flint nodule, cortex present on a small area of one side, the other surfaces are covered by white recortication. The general section is keeled with one flat face which curves along the length of the implement. Coarse flaking covers all faces of the object and, at one end, is a pick-like point. This has a triangular section and was pointed by means of heavy battering on its three edges. No parallels have been found for this object but a Mesolithic date seems likely. Length 153mm, Width 50mm, Thickness 49mm, Mass 308.0g

Object type: PICK
Broad period: MESOLITHIC

Mesolithic pick made from a flint nodule, original cortex present on one face, the other surfaces are covered covered by white recortication. Where this has been damage the original, opaque, mid-grey flint can be seen. One end has been flaked to form a three sided point with some retouch (invasive, scaled, low angle). While the finder suggested that this object was a handaxe it is better interpreted as a Mesolithic pick. Length 183mm, Width 70, Thickness 67mm, Mass 742.0g
