Perforated Pebble Hammer (part of). Approx. half of perforated pebble of coarse grained pinkish quartzite (?recent break). Dimensions 52mm diameter x 18mm thick. The perforation is hour-glass shaped, from 24mm down to 9mm. Dating of perforated pebbles is difficult as they seem to occur from the Mesolithic to Bronze Age and are seldom found in context.

Perforated object, pebble hammer/ macehead. A small but complete example of a perforated 'pebble' (though in the present case the stone may be artificially shaped). The perforation is of the usual 'hour glass' shape shape, probably formed by pecking from both sides. Diameter of perforation 11-12mm. The stone is not the usually encountered quartzite but has dark, sometimes crystalline, specks in a buff matrix -probably a buff- and may be a glacial erratic or an improt from northern England. Flint adze with tranchet edge, hit slightly to one side and retouched. It is worked all over and convex on both sides. The flint is very pale and creamy white in colour with some iron coloured staining. One of the convex sides is slightly flatter, and this side also has a smooth area (maybe coincidental) towards the tranchet edge.

Mesolithic black flint core, tubular in shape and narrowing to a point at one end while the opposite end is the striking platform and smooth and flat. The entire surface has been struck longitudinally. The striking platform has also been struck and bears rippling scars. The flint is fresh in appearance with small yellowy spots. The striking platform is roughly 47mm by 42mm and the core is 62mm in height.

Flint flake, rectangular in shape and measuring 38.5x25.5x7mm and weighing 8.11g. The flake is grey in colour but the surface is almost entirely patinated. The underside is smooth and curving, while the other has four facets where it has been struck. The edges are jagged and possibly slightly worked. The bulb of percussion is obvious at one end.

Complete perforated object, stone 'pebble' macehead, oval in shape with a central perforation slightly 'hour-glass' shaped and very smooth. The stone is speckled with a greenish-blue hue and several green blue fault lines running through it. It is probably Cornish or Welsh in origin. Measures 151x101x42 and weighs 945g (to nearest 5g). Similar to an example in Flint Implements (The British Museum 1968) from Marlborough in Wiltshire and dating to the Mesolithic (Plate X, no.7).
