Flint knife. Long triangular flake with long narrow parallel flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a flat ventral surface with a small bulb at its wider end. A dense white patina suggests the object was exposed to a calcareous environment after its deposition. Suggested date: Late Mesolithic, 7000-4000 BC. Burnt flint debitage. A chip with broader and narrower flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a concave ventral surface. Crazing suggests the chip was then burnt. It has subsequently collected a dense creamy patina suggesting its prolonged exposure to a calcareous environment. Flint with cortex core. A rounded nodule fragment with broad and narrow parallel flakes struck from it by probably unidirectional working, though with cortex retained on a remaining curved surface. The aris between the struck surfaces and the angled striking platform is battered, suggesting the core was put to some other use as a pounding tool before it was discarded. The struck surfaces bear dense creamy patina, suggesting the object has endured prolonged exposure to a calcareous environment after its final deposition. Iron spots may also suggest its incorporation in gravel. Suggeste…

Pale grey flint debitage. A flake with long parallel flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a concave ventral surface. A light misty patina has formed over all surfaces, though this is significantly less dense than that observed on most of the similar material recovered and reported from the same location at the same time, arising from exposure to a calcareous environment. The post-depositional experience of this object differs from that of much of the rest; the removal of patina from this example has arisen from adventitious damage. Suggested date: late Mesolithic, 7000-4000 BC.…

Flint debitage. Six small flakes or fragments, with narrow parallel flakes struck from their dorsal surfaces; the ventral surfaces are mostly slightly concave, and a tiny bulb appears on one larger and one smaller fragments [to left, top and bottom]. A dense creamy patina over all struck surfaces suggests the objects have subsequently endured long exposure to a calcareous environment. Suggested date: Late Mesolithic, 7000-4000 BC. Flint with cortex strip probable core fragment. A large chunk with long parallel flakes removed by initially unidirectional working from a flat striking platform. Though the form may have initially have been, or intended to be, pyramidal; either casual working or damage has left the larger part of the surface unevenly shattered. A dense creamy patina over all struck surfaces suggests the object has subsequently endured long exposure to a calcareous environment. Suggested date: Late Mesolithic, 7000-4000 BC. Grey flint tranchet axehead. An oval biconvex flint object of oval section, with broad and narrow flakes trimmed from one [?the ventral] side by probably multangular angled retouch, and with covering retouch across the other [?dorsal]side comprising predominantly unidirectional angled retouch. The identification offered is suggested by the angled cutting edge which appears to have been formed by a single hard hammer strike. The aris between the two convex sides is lightly battered. Chips at the cutting edge are probably recent and adventitious damage. Suggested date: Early Mesolithic,…

Very short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect also trims the cortex itself, possibly to produce a very finely serrated implement.
