Pale grey-buff semi-translucent flint, backed blade. Sub-triangular flake with long parallel flakes struck from its dorsal side by unidirectional working, an undulating ventral surface with a bulb at its narrower end, and with very short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect blunting or roughening one long edge, perhaps to permit pressure to be exerted while using the opposite long edge as a cutting tool. Suggested date: Late Mesolithic, 7000-4000 BC. Length: 28.0mm, Width: 20.3mm, Thickness: 5.3mm, Weight: 3.43gms

Pale grey flint with cortex, backed blade. A thin flake with broad and narrow parallel flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a concave ventral surface with a bulb at its narrower end. Short angled scalar retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows one long edge; the opposite edge has cortex retained, possibly to enable pressure to be brought to bear on the cutting edge. Patches of white patina on struck surfaces may suggest the object has endured a limited period of exposure to a calcareous environment. Suggested date: Late Mesolithic, 7000-4000 BC. Grey-brown semi-translucent flint with cortex spot, possible backed blade. A long thin flake with long narrow parallel flakes struck from its dorsal side, and with a concave ventral surface with a bulb at its rounded end. Short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows one long curving edge; the opposite long edge is battered, and at its tip was possibly reworked with very short abrupt retouch, again executed from the dorsal aspect. A light dusting of white patina on the ventral surface only may suggest it was exposed to a calcareous environment for a limited period, or, …

Black flint with cortex, backed blade. A long curving flake with long parallel flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a concave ventral surface with a small bulb at one end. A series of tiny edge-on chips were probably fortuitously formed along a cutting edge along one long side; cortex is retained along the opposite edge to permit pressure to be brought to bear on the cutting edge. Grey-brown flint possible backed blade fragment. A small chip with long narrow parallel flakes struck from its dorsal side, and with a bulb at one end of the ventral surface. A thin strip of cortex may be retained along one long edge, the opposite edge is sharp and possibly finely serrated. Broken, probably recently, at its broader end. Dense creamy patina suggests that this object has endured prolonged exposure to a calcareous environment after its deposition, and before its breakage. Suggested date: Late Mesolithic, 7000-4000 BC. Grey semi-translucent flint with cortex backed blade fragment. A flake with two parallel flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a slightly concave ventral surface. Grey translucent flint of good quality with cortex strip, appearing honey coloured under transmitted light; backed blade. A small narrow flake with long parallel flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a small bulb at one end of a slightly concave ventral surface. Very short abrupt retouch executed from the ventral aspect may follow one long edge, though these small scars might have arisen from adventitious impacts. The retention of cortex on the opposite long edge, however, may show this to be deliberate. There is no patina, in contrast to most of the accompanying material. Sugge…

Grey buff flint with cortex, backed blade. Leaf-shaped flake with cortex trimmed by a long angled strike on the dorsal surface which produced a rippled surface to the exposed flint, and with a gently concave ventral surface. Short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows the edge of the exposed flint. Most of the cortex was retained, presumably to enable pressure to be brought to bear on the cutting edge. It appears the tool was made for a left-handed user. Suggested date: Late Mesolithic, 7000-4000 BC. Length: 41.5mm, Width: 16.6mm, Thickness: 3.9mm, Weight: 3.53gms

Grey flint with cortex, possible backed blade. Irregular flake with narrow multi-directional flakes struck from its dorsal side and with a bulbar ventral surface. Very short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows a protruding curved edge; this has received further damage, possibly in the course of its use. Cortex was retained along the opposite or basal [as viewed] edge, probably to permit pressure to be exerted on the cutting edge. Suggested date: Late Mesolithic, 7000-4000 BC. Grey-buff translucent flint with cortex, possibly collected from the East Coast; backed blade. A small leaf-shap[ed flake with broad and narrow parallel flakes struck from its dorsal side, and with a gently concave ventral surface. Grey flint with cortex, backed blade. Flake with long parallel flakes trimmed from its dorsal side producing a single sharp long edge and with a low bulb and ripples on the ventral surface. Cortex is retained on the long edge opposite the cutting edge to enable pressure to be brought to bear on it. Misty patina on struck surfaces suggests the object endured a period of exposure after its deposition. Suggested date: Late Mesolithic, 7000-4000 BC. Pale toffee coloured flint with cortex, backed blade. Elongated flake with long parallel bladelets struck from its dorsal side and with a bulb and ripples on the ventral surface. Short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect follows one long curving edge; cortex is retained on the opposite edge, perhaps to enable pressure to be brought to bear. Blue grey flint with cortex backed blade. Elongated flake with long narrow flakes trimmed from one half of the dorsal side and with ripples on the ventral surface. Patches of dense misty patina have accumulated over the struck surfaces, suggesting a period of weathering after initial deposition. The patina is lost to very short abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal aspect along one edge, leaving the cortex to permit pressure to be exerted. Suggested date: Late Mesolithic, 7000-4000 BC. Blue grey flint with cortex and misty patches of patina, backed blade. Flake with long narrow parallel flakes struck from its dorsal side and a rippled surface on the ventral surface. The accumulation of patina over struck surfaces is disrupted by short abrupt retouch executed from the ventral aspect, which has not itself collected patina. This may suggest the reuse of a flake after a period of exposure, and the incorporation of the object into a sealed deposit shortly after its final deposition. Flint of uncertain tint, entirely covered by dense creamy patina, backed blade. Triangular section flake with a cutting edge bearing short abrupt retouch, presumably executed from the dorsal aspect, and with further large concavities arising from subsequent fortuitous impacts; both ends truncated, possibly deliberately. The extent of damage and patina may argue the long exposure of this object after its deposition. Suggested date: Late Mesolithic, 7000-4000 BC. Dark brown flint with cortex backed blade, as kindly identified by the finder. Long flake with long parallel flakes removed from its dorsal side and flat on the ventral. Very short fine abrupt retouch executed from the dorsal side produced a finely serrated straight blade with a possibly broken extension above it, with relict cortex along the opposite edge permitting pressure to be brought to bear when using the blade. The ventral surface bears several shallow conchoidal chips, possibly from the formation or use of the lost part. Very short abrupt retouch executed from the ventral asp…
