Flint bladelet core. Dark brownish grey mottled flint with a pale grey, mid gloss patina. Gravel flint. One face retains a patch of weathered cortex and also shows evidence of earlier breakage in the form of a patch of off-white patination. The core has been worked from two sides, having numerous elongate, blade-like scars on both. Plausibly Mesolithic.

Mesolithic tranchet axe. Long, oval axe with an oval cross section. Made on a narrow nodule of gravel flint. Mid grey flit with occasional white and dark grey mottles. Mid gloss, slightly milky patina. Cortex is present at the butt end and two thirds along one face. The cortex is weathered and stained brown. The the butt end there are traces of earlier, greyish white patination indicating earlier breakage of the nodule. The axe is extensively flaked along both edges. The flakes are broad. The cutting edge is formed by similar broad flaking on one face, and the removal of a tranchet (tr…

2 probable flint bladelets. Both are missing the distal and proximal ends and have trapezoidal cross sections. 1 is of dark grey flint with a patchy, milky patina. The other has a heavy white patina (possibly grey core flint). Below is a sample measurement and the total weight.

4 tertiary flint flakes. Elongate flaking scars on the dorsal surface And bulb of percussion ventrally. The dorsal surface is much more heavily patinated with an off white colouration than the mid-gloss ventral surface indicating that the flake was struck from a core produced sometime earlier and then re-used. It is of patchy dark and mid grey flint with large areas of less siliceous material.

6 small, tertiary flint blade flakes. All have elongate flaking scars on the dorsal surface. They have trapeziodal and triangular cross sections. 1 appears complete, the others are broken. 4 have a mid-gloss patina (they are of dark grey flint with white mottles, mid beige, light grey and off-white flint). 2 have a heavy, white patina on dark blue-grey flint. Sample dimensions and total weight below.

4 secondary flint blade flakes. All have some abraded nodule cortex remaining and elongate flaking scars on the dorsal surface. They have trapeziodal and triangular cross sections. 2 appear complete, the others are broken. All have a mid gloss patina. 2 are of dark grey flint, 1 is of mid beige flint and the last is of very pale beige flint. Sample dimensions and total weight below.

2 small blade flakes, 1 complete and one snapped. Both have a bulb of percussion, 1 has some cortex remaining. Both have flaking scars dorsally. The flint is matt and pale grey with crazing indicating that it has been burnt.
Sample dimensions and total weight below.

3 small bladelet flakes. All are damaged, resulting in the removal of the bulb of percussion on two and distal edge damage on all. The remaining bulb of percussion is extremely shallow, indicating a soft hammer strike. All have elongate flaking scars on the dorsal surface. The flint ranges from mid grey with mid-gloss patina to off-white with low-gloss patina. These flakes probably derive from bladelet production and as such could date from the Mesolithic to early Neolithic. The dimensions in the fields below represent a sample, the weight is the total for all three.

A flint awl. Dark grey flint with white mottles. Mid gloss patina. Irregular, elongate flake from which the bulb of percussion has been removed. There is a small area of pebble cortex at the distal end of the dorsal face. Waves of percussion ventrally and flking scars dorsally. The proximal end has been pressure flaked to form a point which has been notched at one side. The other side has a cutting edge formed by conchoidal flaking on the ventral surface.

Pale grey flint with white mid-gloss patina. The flake has a small striking platform and bulb of percussion ventrally. There are numerous flaking scars from small blade production laterally on the dorsal surface. Flake removed from a core in order to make it easier to work. Part of original core striking platform remains at one side.
