A flint blade with a large chip near the distal end but which is otherwise complete. The flint dates to the late Mesolithic period, circa 6,300 - 4,300BC. The blade is sub-oval in plan view and sub-triangular in section. The striking platform has been removed as a result of re-working but the bulb of percussion and part of the bulbal scar is present on the ventrical face. The ventrical face is smooth and shiny with concentric circles surrounding the bulb of percussion just discernable. There are surface scratches and slight pitting on the ventrical face surrounding an area of damage n…

County: Northamptonshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A Mesolithic flint axehead, c.8300-4500BC. The axehead is unusually short, with a curved cutting edge and a rounded butt. There is a large tranchet flake removal scar at the butt end of the axe. A small area of cortex remains in a recess possibly caused by a fossil. One side has a longitudinal ridge running from behind the cutting edge to the tip of tranchet flake. The other side has a rounded surface.

Probably a flint piercer or awl of a Mesolithic to early Neolithic date. The opaque grey and white flint flake is sub-triangular and worked to a point at the distal end. There is some slight retouch on the dorsal face, but most of the neat parallel retouch is on the upper right side of the ventral face. The length is 34.7mm, the width is 22.4mm, the thickness is 8.0mm and the weight is 4.88g.

County: Northamptonshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
An assemblage of flint waste, dating to the Mesolithic and Early Neolithic periods: 14 flakes from the production of Late Mesolithic narrowblade microliths 7 miscellaneous Early Neolithic flakes. This collection is interesting and shows that activity on the site spanned many years. Though the dominance of waste flakes and retouch forms over cores suggests that occupation at the site was transitory, rather than settled, the finder states that cores are present onsite.

An assemblage of 43 worked flints dating to the Late Mesolithic and Early Neolithic. 17 waste flints 15 Late Mesolithic narrowblade microliths 4 Early Neolithic blades 7 miscellaneous worked flakes. The assemblage is dominated by Mesolithic material, relating to microliths (small blades used to tip weapons for hunting red deer). However, the presence of a small quantity of Neolithic material is of note.

An assemblage of worked flints dating primarily to the Early Neolithic. Though cores were not identified by the FLO, the finder states that they are present on the site in some numbers. One implement is crudely manufactured, and is heavily (c.100%) corticated. Unlike the rest of the collection (which is Neolithic), this item probably dates to the Mesolithic. 23 waste 11 retouch forms, including scrapers and rejuvenation flakes.
